LAWRENCE OF ARABIA LP Colpix Records SLE 1000 Deluxe Box Set - Original Soundtrack Recording of the 1962 historical epic. The score was composed by Maurice Jarre, little known at the time and selected only after William Walton and Malcolm Arnold were both unavailable; he was given six weeks to compose two hours of orchestral music, which was performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Sir Adrian Boult, listed as the conductor in the film's credits, did not conduct most of it, due to his failure to adapt to the intricate timing of each cue. Jarre replaced him as the conductor and went on to win his first Academy Award, for what is now considered one of the greatest film scores of all time, ranking #3 on AFI's top 25 list. Directed by David Lean and starring the year's Golden Globe Most Promising Male Newcomer - Peter O'Toole, it's considered one of the greatest and most influential films in cinematic history. Lawrence was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won seven. In addition to the Original Score, it won the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and for both Film and Sound Editing.
