Description
This is one of the Holy Grails of RCA in the stereo era. LDS-6065, is a 2 record set fo a stunning performance by Ernest Ansermet in his only recording for RCA. He is conducting the wonderful Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden. If you know RCA's, you know that this is the same group that brought us LSC-2449, 2450, etc. The same Decca engineering team with Kenneth Wilkinson and Michael Williamson, recorded in the super acoustics of Kingsway Hall in London, England. This set is titled "Royal Ballet Gala Performance", and consist of 2 Shaded Dog Lp's and a Soria Book with great color lithographs and text by Arnold L. Haskell. There is also a program card, as if you were there, and a beautiful cloth bound slip set cover with a leather bound end. The whole package was thought-fully put together in RCA's best style.
The records are stunning in every way. The stage is tremendously wide, deep. The records are wonderfully transparent with great fidelity and midrange tone. The inner detail of the orchestra is phenomenal. The mids and the highs are immediate and lively. The low end dynamic are earth shattering, like no other RCA, not even Alexander Gibsons "Witches Brew" or "Ballet Music of Gounod and Bizet"(LSC-2225, LSC-2449). So you can see this set ranks on top of the Best from RCA. There is absolutly no Hole-in-the-middle syndrome. In every respect this set qualifies for the best of the best. The music being played is highlights from "Swan Lake", "The Nutcracker", "Sleeping Beauty", "Sylphides", "Giselle", "Coppelia", "Boutique Fantasque", and "Carnaval".
The vinyl is VG++,M,M,M, with the only flaw on side one being some surface scuffs (or scratches). One place on band 2 ticks four times lightly. On my system, of Oracle V turntable with Graham 2.2, and Shelter 90x cartridge I did not hear any other ticks in the music. There was some soft background noise in the dead wax areas between cuts on side 1. The inner Soria book and performance card are Mint. The outer cloth bound cover is Mint-, with only some sticker residue as its only flaw. Don't miss your chance to get this Extremely RARE stereo RCA set. Also please view my other great recordings being auctioned on e-bay.
To all classical record collectors and audiophiles; I am now in the process of selling my entire collection. I have been a record collector of classical and jazz records for the last 40 years. I have recently decided to start liquidating my collection, which has grown too big. I have already listed many of my second, third and fourth copies of the great RCA’s and Mercury’s. I have now launched in to selling the best and last copies, from my personal collection.
