Description
Led Zeppelin 1979 UK LP Swan Song SSK 59410 'In Through The Out Door', first pressing with hand-etched matrices SSK 59410 A5 / B(4)5 by which I mean the '4' looks to be replaced by a '5'.
Comes in an 'A' variant inner sleeve as denoted on the spine and with the 'magic ink' card inner and brown bag outer.
The bag is interesting with four small red printed 'p' round labels as shown; does it denote a promo or other alternative pressing copy or a previous owner named Pete or Pamela etc? The labels look well aligned and fitted so may be from the factory but who knows?
As for the bag condition, it has no defacements but the side seams are worn with a few small tears up top.
The 'A' sleeve is made of strong card and is in clean, square and sharp shape.
Next up is the gimmick 'magic ink' top-opening inner sleeve which is in good nick. It features black and white line artwork which becomes coloured when water is applied; there is some colouring evident so someone in the past has had a dabble. The record sits in a bespoke separate polythene bag thus protecting it from the inner walls of the carded sleeve.
Finally, on to the shiny vinyl which reads 152g on my scale so is of a nice medium weight. It has a slight hint of dishing when viewed edge on and is hardly worth mentioning although I have for the sake of completeness.
Along with the aforementioned matrices it has STRAWBERRY machine etched on both run-offs denoting a Strawberry Studios production.
The record has a tight centre hole; both labels are very clean and show a few spindle snail traces indicating the disc has had a handful of spins at most.
By room daylight at the window the playing surfaces look minty. Angling the disc under the evil and unforgiving table lamp I see maybe a few ever so light storage scuffs and hairlines but I'm looking hard to spot them. Visually therefore the vinyl has to be worthy of EXC+ or 8.75 /10 if you prefer numbers. This is one nice example.
On my Linn / Naim hifi system the record plays very well so I'm plumbing for another 8.75 /10 for its' aural quality.
