Description

LED ZEPPELIN II A1 / B1 (2nd pressing)

This iconic debut LP is the first pressing after the one with the Turquoise lettering and is in very good condition.  This tends to be known as a second pressing as it has the Warner Bros publishing credit on the label.  This record has been well played but remains a very good listen with some background noise/clicks here and there.

Identical to the one housed in the Turquoise lettered cover it is fully laminated with orange lettering and has the grey band along the bottom edge.  It is 'Printed and Made by MacNeill Press Ltd, London SE1 and also has the 'Uptight an' Outasight' info on the back of the cover.

It obviously has the red/plum labels with the 'Warner Bros/Jewel Music' credit and comes complete with the original poly-lined 'Plastic Bags Can Be Dangerous' inner.

Visual grading

This vinyl does have numerous hairlines and a few faint scratches but the playback as described below is better than it looks!  This is in no way a Near Mint copy but for a rare A1/B1 pressing it remains an enjoyable listen.

Play grading

There is some lead in static prior to 'Good Times Bad Times' and it then plays with only light intermittent crackle that in my opinion is not intrusive.  The intro to 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You' plays very well with some background crackle and one hiss type sound.  The remainder of the track plays with a few light clicks and some light crackle again but is certainly playable and grades as VG in my opinion.  The bluesy 'You Shook Me' and 'Dazed...' play with better audio.  Some crackle and a little distortion but no intrusive clicks. There are no loud pops or jumps on this side.

'Your Time is Gonna Come' for the majority plays very well with only light background noise and with only three pops.  'Black Mountain Side' has overall excellent audio with a 4/5 light clicks that are very much in the background.  'Communication Breakdown' plays loud and clear with hardly any interference, the clarity here is excellent.  For a track with so many quiet sections 'I Can't Quit You Baby' plays extremely well and with very little interference.  Great audio in fact.  'How Many More Times' ends this side with some distortion but hardly any crackle.

Cover

The 'MacNeill' laminated cover does have some general wear and tear but has no marks or writing.  The edges and thin spine are in excellent condition although the corners do have some rubbing.  There is some creasing on the laminate towards the bottom right hand edge and some on the back cover.  There is a small tear on the opening edge on the front and another couple on the opening edge on the reverse side.  Overall the laminate remains in very good shape.

Poly-lined inner sleeve

This original 'Plastic Bags Can Be Dangerous' sleeve does have plenty of creasing and a small split to one side and also 'LED ZEPPELIN' written on one side.  No major wear as such and it's good that it's there anyway!  It has the Patent nos 800513 &  973939 and 1/069 on the right hand side which is referring to the release date.

Labels

Side One has a very small bubble area and one other tiny mark.  Side Two is extremely clean.  Both have a fair amount of spindle wear which is hardly surprising.
