·         Original first run pressing with uncorrected matrix numbers on both sides

·         Turquoise lettering on the front cover

·         Superhype/Jewel publishing credits

·         Plum and Red Atlantic labels

Only 2000 turquoise covers were printed approximately and only a small run of the vinyl and labels were produced before the publishing credits were changed to Warner Bros/7 Arts and the matrix numbers altered, making any true first pressing now very rare - in any condition.

The record sleeve does show signs of age. The front and back cover have creases and some laminate lifting, the top and bottom corners on the opening side are slightly worn and the spine has several cracks but is still legible – the sleeve does benefit from not having any writing, seam splits, stains or tears.

·         I would therefore rate the cover as VG

The record labels are vibrant and clean with minor spindle wear. Side 1 does not have any stains, writing or scuffs. Side 2 does have some clear residue spots, but is only noticeable under a light (see pictures) and does not have any other stains, writing or scuffs.

·         I would therefore rate the labels as EX

The heavyweight vinyl does have some sleeve rub and hairlines on both sides, but are only seen under strong light. The audio is amazing throughout with no crackle or pops - even between tracks and during the runouts – giving a very different listening experience in true analogue compared to any remastered version.

Side 2 does however have one non audible visible mark and on the last track ‘How many more times’ a stick occurs at 00:05:05 into the song, the last three minutes are perfect – but obviously you will have to adjust your needle.

The mark and the stick are not related and both may benefit from a professional clean.

Please notice that for some reason the track ‘How many more times’ has a running time of only 00:03:30 on the back sleeve but actually plays for 00:08:30. I noticed this when I was timing the track to find out where it sticks. All the track times differ by seconds compared to the running times on the CD but I don’t think this was an unnoticed printing error as future pressings on vinyl have the same running times on the sleeves…who knows?

·         I would therefore rate the overall quality of the vinyl as VG+

(but plays to a very strong EX minus the stick)

The record benefits from having its original inner polylined sleeve which most copies come without and is free from any stains, writing or tears. EX+

If you can see past the minor faults this record is still highly collectable and much sought after, it will only go up in value due to the rarity of the true first pressing.

This LP will be very carefully packaged. The cover is kept in a 12” self-residue sleeve and the vinyl is housed in its original polylined bag. Both will be, and have been kept separately for archiving purposes and I would advise these remain this way for maximum value in the future.

GRADING SYSTEM:  In order to assist everyone who buys and sells rare discs, Record Collector magazine has originated a set of standards for the condition of second-hand records, I have added a (+) or (-) to my grading’s where applicable.

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
