Description

LED ZEPPELIN - LED ZEPPELIN II

A nice copy of this 1969 UK very 1st press Led Zep classic with the mislabelled side 2 "wreck" error, and the impressive stereo sound quality being a real highlight.

Year/Label : 1969 UK ATLANTIC Label number : 588198 Matrix numbers : 588 198 A2, 588 198 B2 Stampers :  11 2  / 1 1 5
Very good plus (VG+) condition vinyl - flat and retaining an impressive jet black lacquered sheen, but with a number of fine wispy hairlines, paper scuff lines and (on side 2) x2 3-4cm slightly more prominent surface scuff lines - all really only detectable with closer inspection under a bright light, nothing feelable, and all appearing to be superficial : the overall excellent stereo sound quality confirms this. The labels are in very good plus (VG+) condition - all text and colours retaining excellent definition and with no undue marks, the only blemishes being some very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label and a name written in blue biro on the side 2 label (see photo). Note the infamous "WRECK" misprint on the side 2 label - synonymous with very 1st UK pressings...later issues had this changed to "MAID".  A solid very good (VG) condition E.J. Day gatefold outer sleeve - the edges and spine remain firm but there is virtually continuous scuffing on the bottom front-side edge and intermittent light scuffing on the remaining top and bottom edges. The spine remains firm also with just a few "nicks" and minimal scuff marks and the spine text is mostly clearly legible. There is also mild scuffing on the corners and a few small and light handling/storage marks on each of the front and reverse sides. The opening edges remain firm with no fraying, the interior of the gatefold remains in excellent condition and there is no unwanted writing. Despite these relatively minor blemishes the gatefold remains fully functional and highly presentable. Do take a close look at my photos where I have attempted to portray a detailed and honest condition appraisal.  Overall excellent (EX) stereo sound quality with no sticks, skips, repeats, or distortion, and any background crackle is at an absolute minimum - very occasional (there is just a few seconds of very light background crackle at the very end of side 2, for example), very low level, and barely noticeable. The same goes for clicks - you make come across just a couple of very light and background random clicks on each side but nothing to spoil a great listen. Great tone, wonderful clarity and every track remaining pure joy even after all of these years - is it really 57 years since this copy hit the light of day?!  Comes with plain white inner sleeve with correct horizontal "MADE IN ENGLAND" and "PATENT NO..." texts - no splits, no edge fraying, no unwanted writing, barely any age discolouration and just a little very mild creasing towards the corners. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.    A highly collectable copy of this 1969 UK very 1st press Zep classic - nice sleeve but the highpoint is the impressive stereo sound quality.
