Description

LED ZEPPELIN III: OCT 1970 UK ATLANTIC 1st PRESSING EX+

EJ DAY G/F, BEAUTIFUL COPY - CLEAN, SHARP, BRIGHT SOUND

LED ZEPPELIN
Led Zeppelin III

ORIGINAL UK ATLANTIC DELUXE (2401 002) FIRST RED/PLUM PRESSING (October 1970) OF LED ZEPPELIN'S THIRD LP - WITH THE PETER GRANT PRODUCTION CREDIT ON THE TOP HALF OF THE LABEL AND THE CATALOGUE NUMBER PRINTED AS ONE NUMBER WITH NO DASH

THIS IS A GREAT COPY WHICH HAS SEEN LITTLE PLAY (hardly a spindle mark on the labels) AND IT SOUNDS SENSATIONAL THROUGHOUT (ON MY SYSYEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME) WITH A CLEAN, SHARP, FRESH AND INCREDIBLY STRONG SOUND - ONE OF THE FINEST COPIES I HAVE SEEN IN A WHILE AND ONE VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND INDEED

PRESSED ON QUALITY MID-WEIGHT VINYL WITH THE UK ATLANTIC RED/PLUM LABELS
MATRIX: 2401002 A-5 12 14 8 ("DO WHAT THOU WILT") / 2401002 B-5 13 12 ("SO MOTE IT BE") - all etched - THESE TWO CRYPTIC MESSAGES WERE SCRIBED IN THE RUN-OUT GROOVES BY TERRY MANNING, THE VINYL CUTTER/ CO-SOUND ENGINEER, ON JIMMY PAGE'S REQUEST. "Do what thou wilt" IS TAKEN FROM ALEISTER CROWLEY'S BOOK, "Philosophy Of Thelema", THE MAIN PASSAGE BEING: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. Love is the law, love under will". "There is no law beyond do what thou wilt." WITH "So Mote It Be" PROBABLY A MASONIC REFERENCE (although it is used in many ancient rituals and is similar to 'Amen')
THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL, DEEPLY GLOSSY, FULLY LAMINATED UK GATEFOLD COVER "Printed and made by the E. J. Day Group, London and Bedford" WITH A FULLY FUNCTIONAL SPINNING WHEEL
COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL POLY-LINED INNER SLEEVE WITH 'PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS...', BRITISH PATENT NUMBER AND 'MADE IN ENGLAND' PRINTED IN BLUE TEXT - DATED CODED '0670' (June, 1970)

On their first two albums, Led Zeppelin unleashed a relentless barrage of heavy blues and rockabilly riffs, but Led Zeppelin III provided the band with the necessary room to grow musically.
While there are still a handful of metallic rockers, III is built on a folky, acoustic foundation that gives the music extra depth.
And even the rockers aren't as straightforward as before: the galloping "Immigrant Song" is powered by Robert Plant's banshee wail, "Celebration Day" turns blues-rock inside out with a warped slide guitar riff, and "Out on the Tiles" lumbers along with a tricky, multi-part riff.
Nevertheless, the heart of the album lies on the second side, when the band delve deeply into English folk.
"Gallows Pole" updates a traditional tune with a menacing flair, and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" is an infectious acoustic romp, while "That's the Way" and "Tangerine" are shimmering songs with graceful country flourishes.
The band hasn't left the blues behind and the twisted bottleneck blues of "Hats off to (Roy) Harper" is stunning and the epic "Since I've Been Loving You," is one of their finest original blues tracks

Track Listing:
Side 1: Immigrant Song / Friends / Celebration Day / Since I've Been Loving You / Out On The Tiles
Side 2: Gallows Pole / Tangerine / That's The Way / Bron-Y-Aur Stomp / Hat's Off To (Roy) Harper

LABELS: The labels are clean, bright and unmarked with barely a spindle trace to be seen (on very, very close inspection possibly a handful at most and these are hard to see) - NEAR MINT
VINYL Visual: The surfaces are clean with a deep glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - one or two light brush marks and some light hairlines only - these have no audio consequence - the record sounds superb - EXCELLENT+
VINYL Audio: The audio quality is absolutely sensational throughout - crystal clear, deep, rich, vibrant and full of restless energy and excitement. On playback at a loud volume there are no major audio issues of note - no scratches, no sticks or jumps, no real surface noise (the run-ins, track divisions and quieter sections all play beautifully) and no loud clicks or pops. All frequencies are bright and clear and there is no discernible groove-wear and no sound deterioration (this copy has seen little play). Critically graded EXCELLENT+ for audio (if not better, as the sound is practically flawless) this is one of the finest copies I have seen in a very long time and one which is very highly recommended indeed
SLEEVE: The sleeve is also in great shape with a fully functioning and attached spinning wheel. The edges and spine are crisp, sharp and fresh and practically unworn (there are a couple of very minor little 'knocks' to the top edge - nothing really - please see close-up photos). All text on the spine clear and bold and the surfaces are unrubbed and retain their original deep, deep glossy sheen - EXCELLENT++
And the original plain white poly-lined inner is practically as new with no splits - just some light age-related discolouration on the top edge - NEAR MINT
