Description
LED ZEPPELIN IV A3 / B4 Atlantic 2401012 UK 1971 Red/Plum LABEL (Inverted Feather)
Whilst there are about eight red/plum pressings of this classic album this A3/B4 version is commonly known as the second pressing. It has PECKO DUCK and PORKY etched into the dead wax.
Also known as 'Zoso' or 'Four Symbols' this is one of the rarest pressings around as the Side Two label has the 'Inverted Feather' symbol i.e. it's upside down. Earlier issues had the incorrect Peter Grant 'Executive Producer' credit along with the Inverted Feather symbol. They corrected the Peter Grant error but not the Inverted Feather and far less of these were issued as opposed to the original double error issue. Therefore the one I am selling is very rare and highly collectible - they turn up very rarely.

The audio on Side One is VG+ (Ex in many sections)
The first two tracks on S2 are Ex and the last two are VG+
The labels are Ex+
The original inner sleeve is VG
Visual grading
Both sides have various faint hairlines that are no doubt mainly caused by sleeve removal. There is a more obvious small mark on track two of S1 but it does not affect the audio. There are also a few fine scratches but this record is by no means in poor condition. It has just been well played and none of the scratches are deep. The spindle wear is certainly not excessive and as described below the audio is still of a very good standard.
Play grading
'Black Dog' has only a minimal amount of static at the beginning and then plays very well. There is a little crackle in the quieter sections and a few clicks in the middle but there are no jumps or pops and overall has very good audio for such a rare early pressing. 'Rock and Roll' plays with excellent quality and whilst I heard a few clicks towards the end I wouldn't say they were intrusive as they are somewhat hidden behind the rock out guitar! 'The Battle of Evermore' plays with excellent audio with only light static in the background and three clicks in the middle section. has only has a couple of light clicks but apart from that plays without incident, no crackle or pops, another wonderful listen. The classic 'Stairway to Heaven' has a couple of pops at the beginning and then plays with only light background crackle and four other pops but it remains an excellent listen. I would say the louder section plays with a little distortion but that is common on these early pressings.
'Misty Mountain Hop' and 'Four Sticks' both play with excellent audio and no clicks etc. There is just a hint of background crackle that in my opinion does not interfere with the audio. The light crackle on 'Going to California' is a little more obvious as it is a quieter song. It also has 4 very soft clicks at the beginning and 3/4 pops further in but it still plays well with no jumps. 'When the Levee Breaks' ends the side with the obligatory light crackle. I don't mean to go on about the crackle, the sound quality is still very good and there are no clicks or pops on this track. Perhaps a little distortion also but an overall excellent way to end this classic album.
For a record so well played you expect some interference but apart from a few pops here and there this rare vinyl still plays with audio that is more than acceptable. Much better than that! There is nothing that is really off putting.
Gatefold cover
The gatefold has been very well preserved and is in excellent overall condition. The edges and spine are very clean and only the corners have some rubbing/shelf wear. The gatefold has one faint stain mark on the back cover that I have only just noticed. Other than that it is extremely clean and has no any other marks/writing. The front cover and the inside are especially in great condition. The opening edge only has a small amount of handling wear.
Inner sleeve
At first glance the inner looks to be in excellent condition but on closer inspection you can see one large on the bottom edge, a 5cm one on the left edge and a small tear on the top. There is also a stain mark on the tracklisting side where it looks like a cup of tea may have been involved! It isn't too obvious. I have seen many inners far worse than this one!
The labels
They are in excellent condition with only some spindle wear. A couple of tiny faint marks on the S2 label.
