Description

Hi, I am Mike, now 48 and have been a music collector and enthusiast for over 34 years now. We all wish we could turn back the clock and buy those wonderful brand new records from the 60s and 70s, but alas, this is not possible; so I always try to offer the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. No vinyl/music lover really would choose to buy second-hand, but this is only way now to own these valuable, prized and elusive items now. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay - on average ONEADAY, hence the name - time rarely allows for more as I Play-Grade virtually every record I offer in their entirety, not just bits to guess a grade (on a Rega 3 deck with Ortofon cartridge) - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story - I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested reader – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get. The only thing I cannot guarantee one hundred percent is exact colour matching - this depends on the lighting at the time and that is out of my control, but I feel sure most items will be very close to the actual real item. Variation can sometimes occur too in colour of the label scans and labels taken next to the sleeve with a digital camera, the scanned full label pictures should be the most accurate. If any picture I take looks more flattering than the actual item for any reason, I will clearly state the fact in the advert. I hope the item below is to your liking - any questions can be emailed and I will do my very best to answer you. I am enthusiastic , and have a fair degree of knowledge about many genres and I promise quality items - bid with confidence - excellence comes as standard and so does Near Mint regularly. Please assume all records I offer have NO jumps or sticks or writing on covers or labels unless clearly stated to the contrary. Thanks for your interest and Good luck – MIKE.

A New Service from Oneadayrecords. All records I now offer on Ebay will now be professionally cleaned on a Moth pro cleaning machine which will be done BEFORE play-grading. After an extensive full demonstration from this machine I feel certain any record, whether modern of vintage cannot fail to benefit, I was amazed just how brilliantly this professional quality machine works for visuals and audio quality. Even records that appear near mint can still have small fragments embedded that will cause that small pop or click and static cannot be seen of course (but can be heard). All records will look spotless in their brand new lined inner provided, static-free and lustrous. This device hoovers and sucks out dirt from the grooves leaving them as virtually clean as new (any groove wear or distortion, surface marks and scratches of course can never be removed). Any surface sounds caused by embedded dust or static will be reduced, a full sound grade will of course still be included in my description as per usual. Any ‘cosmetic’ cleaning made without actually removing debris does more harm than good to sound, buffing with a dry cloth simply pushes in the dust still further into the grooves and the friction causes static and makes matters worse – FACT. It may be have been a good idea in the 60s, but technology has moved on. This pro machine actually REMOVES the embedded fragments and that’s the difference. Just compare my records when they arrive to most others and see and hear the difference. This service is totally FREE, no extras will be added and I never add any fees for using PayPal. I hope this service reassures still further I am dedicated to offering the best, most accurately described and cleanest quality vinyl on the Net. The response from collectors for this machine and service has been high and encouraging. If anyone requires any more details about the Moth please email me.

Artist or Band: Led Zeppelin

Album Title: Led Zeppelin (One).

Producer(s): Jimmy Page. Executive Producer: Peter Grant.

Engineer: Glyn Johns.

Track Listing: Side 1: Good Times Bad Times; Babe I’m Gonna Leave You; You Shook Me; Dazed and Confused. Side 2: Your Time is Gonna Come; Black Mountains Side; Communication Breakdown; I Can’t Quit You Baby; How Many More Times.

Label/Format: Atlantic – Original orange and maroon (Plum) format with the very rare Superhype credit text.

Label Conditions: Very clean and deeply coloured examples, a little maroon saturation into the white centre band but only traces. Attractive with all text, including the prized Superhype credits, being sharp and clear. Spindle marks are light+ but quite faint and showing little, barely any at all drift outside the inch circle circumference ridge. No wear around the hole areas is even more important. Few handling traces and no fingermark smudges that often blight Plum labels. (Please see label pictures for all information needed and the close up to verify the rare Superhype credits).

Cat Number: 588 171.

Mono or Stereo: Stereo.

Country of Manufacture: England, UK

Rarity and Sound Details: This is a very special record and cover – without taking private pressings or similar albums into account, this is arguably one of the rarest albums ever made by a huge, well-known group – arguably the greatest rock band ever. This original first pressed album and cover variant with the turquoise (or some call it blue or cyan) lettering and Atlantic logo on the front cover is ultra rare and for many collectors the holy grail for classic rock albums to own. This was issued very briefly and withdrawn almost straight away, the reason I am led to believe is because the lettering did not show up enough. It was remade with the more familiar orange lettering. Very few turquoise covers were ever made and even fewer made their way into music lover’s collections. I have been told by a few very experienced record dealers and collectors that only between 2 to 4 thousand were ever made at all. This is the most coveted and desired Led Zeppelin album ever made and only a small percentage of these will still exist in EX to near mint conditions. Few ever get offered with most being carefully locked away in highly valuable collections never to be put up for grabs – if they ever do, a king’s ransome is usually demanded from the owners or dealers. Hardly surprising really, these are better than cash in the bank with prices rising faster than British petrol prices and they are genuinely very rare indeed. Yes I agree with anyone who states the music is the important factor for any record, and I could not agree more, but let’s be realistic, its the cover probably more than the actual record here that commands the value in this case. The actual record, even Plum copies are not so rare, but this cover is getting near impossible to find now and its value is certain to rise and rise very high. The next Record Price Guides are likely to go through the roof for this and other similar major rarities. This cover I have on offer is a real beauty, arguably the best I have ever personally seen with only minor blemishes or traces of any wear and it looks simply stunning to the eye. This is true investment quality, you cannot play a cover of course, but the locked in value of this piece is the mainly cover. This copy includes the original Atlantic plum labels with the Superhype credits, again these are very hard to find with most copies include the Warner credits. These Superhype labels must never be undervalued of course, the cover is ultra rare, the Superhype labels are merely just plain rare. This is a fine clean copy, it has a couple of minor marks and minor sound blemishes in places but the sheer power and clarity of this record is nothing short of mind-blowing. The evidence suggests this has been little played with attractive Plum labels. So many forget the age of this genuine first pressed copy, its now around 36-years-old and again many will be trashed and unlistenable, yes even the second pressings. My Rega deck is very critically revealing and this remains a highly enjoyable record to say the very least. Many collectors will simply want this for its rarity value and to look at – like a rare stamp in an album – nothing wrong with that, but musically this is Led Zeppelin at their rawest best and this record has immense power and detail and my play-grade was a truly awesome experience. Most collectors who own this, probably wont play this early ultra valuable version anyway, but will listen to it via an orange covered plum copy that will sound pretty much the same and will be far easier to find in top condition at a far cheaper price. The real hard-core Led Zeppelin vinyl fan could hardly not want this, its the cornerstone for any serious collection, this cover will never really need upgrading so a very rare opportunity. Yes this is rare, very rare indeed, its a copy that many collectors may have been waiting for. The cover will never be easy to find much better than this, a very few ‘Mint’ examples will probably still exist, but will they ever see light of day again? This is a beautiful item for sure. More on cover, looks and sound further down.

Original Year of Release: 1969

Brief Artist & Album Info: A legendary record when found in the turquoise sleeve with the Superhype plum labels. Formed from the ashes of the Yardbirds, but their self-assured debut album immediately established them in their own right. Faultless musicianship combined with blisteringly strong material to create an emphatic statement of purpose. Blues standards are extensively reworked and original songs are as powerful and memorable as found on any debut album ever made. Page’s guitar explores the instrument’s potential with dazzling runs or sonic inventiveness, while Plant takes the lead vocal into new realms of expression. Raw and loud this has moments of true brilliance and many still are convinced this was their best ever album – a tough call but a logical one. Led Zeppelin albums are always best enjoyed on the Plum labels, they have deeper grooves and very loud and dynamic sound qualities that are never bettered. This is an astonishing raw recording of immense power and sonically this can raise the roof and shake the foundations. Of all the Led Zep albums I find this first album is always the one that seems the most played often in poor conditions, okay its the oldest but not by much, it simply was adored by early owners and often played into submission. What a beautiful change to find one of the rarest album covers in existence looking so clean and unworn, the laws of chance are heavily against it with even many of the orange examples being tatty, creased and shabby. The record visually is a beauty also, blemishes are light and very few and sound quality for most is astonishing. Again blemishes but put into context few music lovers could fail to be enthralled by this experience of raw power.

Cover Grade and Format: Critically EX+++, but be under no illusion, many dealers would grade this near mint and given its age and proneness to wear and creasing it probably is in real terms. This is a real looker and is a visual delight with any wear or blemishes being tiny. I would be thrilled to offer this as an orange reissue let alone arguably the world’s rarest major rock cover in this fine condition. Its a single format, laminated both sides. It has the original and very elusive turquoise logo and band name on the front. Designed by George Hardie. Printed and made in England by MacNeill Press Ltd, London. I hope my pictures speak for themselves, please have another look. These are not enhanced or improved in any way with cheap effects to Superhype this sleeve. Quite frankly there is no need too and I would not anyway. What you see is what you get. This major rarity will not been seen like this often, I have done my best to show all details. Yes this item by itself will be an investment and that’s not even taking the Superhype Plum first pressed record into account. (Please refer to my paragraph further down about ‘Covers etc’).

Lamination and Front: Superb and beautiful, yes this has fantastic mirror-like shine and only minimal creasing. This famous sleeve whether orange or turquoise simply seems to attract creases but this has mostly avoided them with any present being small and pretty inconspicuous. Details on this: the front has a small crease near the bottom left corner, three very small (almost tiny) light ‘half moons’ that hardly even show and a very few tiny edge hairline types, most near the spine as per usual, again barely even showing. The back fewer still, one small ‘half moon’ with the tiny faint one below and again just a few edge hairlines again. Probably the fewest creases, all just surface creases, not deep card examples, I have seen on any available turquoise LZ I. All this laminate is rock solid, with no peeling, cracking, major indentations or significant dry areas (blistering from laminate tightening). I consider the later very important and unusual. Again this cover is notorious for this type of visual blemish, not wear as such, but still an eyesore for the owner. The spine edge in particular see the laminate tighten and come away from the cover forming often large dry blisters that simply don't look nice, many fail to even mention this. Here the front has practically none and the back only the finest line right against the spine’s edge, virtually invisible and the least I personally have ever seen. As stated, this laminate has a mirror-like shine that gleams, it almost appears ‘sprayed-on’ such as its near flawless sheen. Even under light, surface blemishes or even faint surface marks are practically absent. One tiny surface pressmark near the back top is so light it cannot even be felt but just visible if scrutinised under light. Quite honestly, I remember buying records from new that had more marked laminate than this. Its pristine clear and unfogged with no friction rubs or record pressmarks. The blackness of the Zeppelin has to be seen to be believed and the white areas are pure showy white, no yellowing at all which again is unusual. Even laminated white covers yellowed as owners of The Beatles ‘White’ album will know. Clearly this amazing rarity has not been subjected to a smoker’s environment which toned and stained just about any cover. This has a fresh and clean appearance that almost dazzles. I not overhyping this cover, this is what is front of me, when something special is front of you, why not simply tell it the way it is. This classic front and laminate will not appear much better than this easily and its one to be truly proud to own.

Cover Back: Little to fault here really again, all very similar to front. The very bottom of the bottom edge has a couple of very light and mild burrs – probably too strong a word really. Its just a very small feathering trace that’s just visible to the slightly unprotected final couple of millimetres where the laminate ends a tiny bit short of full depth. It lies just below the ‘Uptight an’ Outasight’ text block area. I must emphasise this is only very minor indeed but who would believe me if I said everything was perfect? Like the stunning front, this back will take a lot of beating also.

Top Edge: Unworn.

Bottom Edge: Virtually unworn, the back section has ultra mild and light feathering traces – simply where its been resting all these years – hardly unusual to say the least and as light as it ever gets.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, very sharp with little wear and no feathering. Again, rarely seen this vulnerable edge looking much better than this. Stress or thumb creasing is rife here where the record is entered and removed. Deep half moons and cracks are commonly seen near this ‘difficult’ edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, quite straight, some mildish compression in places. All text characters are pristine perfect and unworn under the rock solid and uncracked laminate. The ends are slightly manufactured nipped and this has no creasing lines, again very unusual (I have tried to photograph the spine to help).

Corners: All show little wear at all and retain great, strong and attractive definition with nice clean points. Barely any rubbing at all to even the tips and any creasing near them is small and ultra light.

Cover Summary: Arguably the rarest and most highly prized rock cover ever made. Ultra rare and rarely seen even half this fine – even a VG example is cherished by collectors, this is approaching the Mint(-) category and realistic collectors will know this is exceptional – not perfect, but a stunning 36-year-old item that will blow away most. Ask yourself, with so few existing in the first place, how many will remain today looking quite like this? We all know how laminate rubs and dulls, even with large circles forming. This is so clean and clear it has to be seen for real to fully appreciate it. Clearly from day one, the original owner prized this sleeve and took great care of it. I simply hope the new future owner will treat it same for another 36 years, it deserves nothing less.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EX or very close too, slightly hard to put a definitive grade on this as its a beauty with just a couple of blemishes each side. A very small and light scratch near start of side two that has a few brief clicks near the organ intro’s end. A very faint mark on track two side one, almost appears too light to sound but just a few very light and brief low level clicks here too, but no others. It’s super clean with fine shine and lustre, jet black and very heavily pressed. Any other marks are ultra faint genuine surface blemishes that do not sound as pops or clicks. I guess any popular album this great age almost has the right to have a few blemishes and considering what many will look and sound like these days, I regard this genuine first pressed Superhype copy still high quality and almost exceptional.

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This rare record plays generally up to its visual grading and much exceeds its it right the top level. But there are some moments on the few quieter passages that do have a little very mild ‘background’ sound. Very low level and mainly brief, this record was quite clingy when removed and static was present initially. This was largely removed by my Moth machine along with any minor embedded fragments. The sound and detail on this deep and wide grooved copy is truly awesome. The in-built sonic power in these vintage grooves is breathtaking and any minor blemishes were pretty much overlooked by the sheer scale and fidelity of this rock masterpiece. I have rarely heard that organ introduction on ‘Your Time is Gonna Come’ sound this clear, most all has inherent distortion and crackle which was largely absent here, the few clicks a slight shame of course, but compensated by the clear sound which most copies have long since lost. The impact and slam of the band as the organ intro fades can make you leave your seat. Listen to the detail and clarity of the acoustic guitar that follows and later the interplay between sitar and percussion. I played this album as loudly as I could get away with and even today this never fails to astonish. Yes I did detect a few minor sound blemishes but no distortion, these grooves are unworn and sharp with the high frequencies, crashing cymbals and Plant’s vocals focused and sharp. Most of this album’s rawness and dynamics are very loud anyway and most all vinyl lovers will enjoy it. This is not perfection and those who demand will have to wait another day; but this record will take a fair amount of beating also. Most early records will have a few unwanted sounds (at least) but this has only few and most minor anyway. If silence is demanded, well the silver format is there for all. But for sheer gut-wrenching sound, power, dynamics and realism, this vintage analogue classic takes you into the recording studio. This can test out any hi-fi system to its limits and only quality amps and speakers will handle the deep bass and power present. If just light blemishes can be lived-with (amongst the brilliance of the majority) this is a great original copy and many collectors will treasure it.

Album Played For Grading: Yes.

Final Summary: I can add little to the above, I have tried to be as accurate and concise as I can. Its a rare item, with a superb cover and clean record. You now make your choice. I make no apology for my opening bid, its more than realistic for a copy in this condition, please only bid if you’re serious. The record itself may be a little below perfectionists standard but the ultra rare cover should probably please all. Good luck and any questions, don't hesitate to ask me – Mike.
