Description
Here for auction is a superb example of the double album by LED ZEPPELIN titled “PHYSICAL GRAFFITIâ€. This is an ORIGINAL 1975 UK FIRST PRESSING on the SWAN SONG LABEL, Catalogue Number SSK 89400, with the EARLIEST A1, B4, C1, and D1 MATRIX NUMBERS. First pressings of this LP are EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND in any condition, let alone in the EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION offered here!!!
It is important to explain the differences between this genuine first pressing and more common later pressings.
FIRSTLY the ‘BOX SHAPED’ sleeve is made from very thick quality card (later pressings are much thinner), SECONDLY the card insert is made from thick card and is shaped to fit around the two record inners (on later pressings this insert is made of paper and is NOT shaped), and THIRDLY the picture inner sleeves are made from much thicker card than later pressings!!!
It is important to stress that ALL PARTS OF THIS LP ARE UK FIRST PRESSED!!!! Often on later pressings covers and inners of German origin were used - BUT THIS LP IS A 100% GENIUNE 'EARLIEST' UK FIRST PRESSING WITH A UK MADE COVER, UK MADE INNERS AND UK FIRST PRESSED SET OF RECORDS!!!
The fragile un-laminated thick card sleeve is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. The front and back window cut-outs are undamaged. There is only light creasing to the front and rear covers, and some rubbing to the bottom edge and corners. The spine is SOLID with some rubbing at the bottom. There are absolutely NO rips, stickers or writing!! Not perfect by any means, but still VERY PRESENTABLE!!
Both SOLIDLY PRESSED records retain their ORIGINAL LUSTRE and sit flat and true on the turntable. They are visually in EXCELLENT+ CONDITION with just a few light paper scuff type surface marks which do not affect play. The BEAUTIFUL SWAN SONG LABELS are also in EXCELLENT CONDITION with barely any spindle marks evident. I am confident that the records have hardly been played!!!
A critical play-grading on my Rega turntable showed why these STEREO FIRST PRESSINGS are so sought after!! The CLARITY and POWER of the amazing sounds that emanate from these LOUD CUT FIRST PRESS grooves are VERY SPECIAL. All 4 sides play SUPERBLY with ALL FREQUENCIES CLEAR AND SHARP. There are NO jumps, pops or loud clicks, and a minimum of unwanted noise.
These particular LPs play LOUD!!!
The thick card PICTURE INNER SLEEVES are in EXCELLENT CONDITION showing only light wear at the opening corners.
Complete with the ORIGINAL thick card insert which is also in EXCELLENT CONDITION, with just a small split at the bottom where the weight of the records is concentrated.
Overall a SUPERB FIRST PRESSING of Led Zeppelin’s masterpiece PHYSICAL GRAFFITI, EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND IN SUCH BEAUTIFUL CONDITION!!
