Led Zeppelin’s ‘Tour De Force’ sixth album from 1975 on the Swan Song label, catalogue number SSK 89400. A1/B4/C1/D1 Matrices. An absolutely SUPERB example of this EARLIEST UK FIRST PRESSING !! So much more powerful than the later pressings and reissues from different parts of the globe. The audio reproduction of this NEAR MINT pressing really is FANTASTIC !! From the opening track, the Bo Diddleyesque ‘Custard Pie’, to the sledgehammer blues of ‘In My Time Of Dying’, this is Zeppelin’s heaviest album and this first pressing really packs a PUNCH !! It plays with staggering power and clarity ! The exquisite Eastern mysticism of ‘Kashmir’, the stomping Disco Funk of ‘Trampled Under Foot’, it all just comes shuddering out of the speakers at you !! But its not all hard and heavy. ‘Bron-Yr-Aur’, which was originally recorded in 1970 and intended for Zep III, is a beautifully reflective acoustic piece that perfectly showcases the bands multifaceted talents. The same could be said for gorgeously melodic ‘Down By The Seaside’. The outside recording of ‘Black Country Woman’ (in Mick Jagger’s back garden at Stargroves) is sensational – close your eyes and you’re right there with them !! But what this album really does is ROCK ! ‘The Wanton Song’, ‘Ten Years Gone’, ‘The Rover’, are all classic Zeppelin at their absolute best. It would be true to say I think, that this was the last ‘GREAT’ Zeppelin album and contains such wonderful music as only they could make. The vinyls are in virtually unmarked PRISTINE CONDITION with a mirror like sheen. Disc 1 has some hairlines and what appear to be manufacturing marks in the vinyl but are only visible under strong light. Disc 2 is PERFECT. The beautiful Swan Song labels have NO WARNER LOGO’s and NO SPINDLE MARKS and are COMPLETELY UNMARKED. The discs have the ‘dipped’ centers unlike later pressings and fit snugly over the spindle, confirming they have had little play. There is absolutely NO SPINDLE WEAR. As I said, the audio reproduction is fabulous. There is NO DISTORTION anywhere on this record and it really is as good as the day it was pressed !! The only noise over the entire album is some very slight crackle at the beginning of ‘In My Time Of Dying’, and I do mean slight. There are NO CLICKS OR POPS anywhere and I would have to grade the vinyl as at least NEAR MINT. The box type Kings Road, Culderstead sleeve is still a box. It has some slight wear to the top corners and the bottom but has NO TEARS OR SPLITS to the windows or anywhere else. I would grade this as EX-. The inner sleeves are in PERFECT order, again with no tears or splits or any marks. The white track listing and info insert is also in EXCELLENT condition. All in all, a superlative example of this brilliant album. YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER SOUNDING EXAMPLE ANYWHERE !!
