Description

Led Zeppelin : Presence A2 / B1
This is commonly known as a second pressing, the first had an A1/B1 matrix.  Released on the Swan Song label in 1976 the embossed gatefold and vinyl remain in superb condition.
This was bought from the same owner as the 'Physical Graffiti' album that I am selling on a separate listing and again he assured me that it had only been played the once.  Judging the quality of the vinyl I have no reason to doubt him.

Visual grading
This has a fantastic glossy sheen and there is no spindle wear at all confirming it has hardly been played.  It is only if you look very closely under a strong light that you can see a 3/4 tiny hairlines and a small area on each side of tiny specks.  These have no bearing on the audio and indeed as detailed below it plays to a very high standard for such an early pressing.  For its age it remains visually in superb shape.
Play grading
'Achilles Last Stand' has a few seconds of minor static at the beginning and then plays with a power and dynamism that is so rare on such an early pressing.  The clarity is first class and it plays 'as new' such is the Mint quality of the recording.  There is just no interference and no distortion either which is a real bonus.  This is the best version of this track I have heard on a pressing as early as this.  I just love the synchronicity between Jones and Bonham here and because of the stunning clarity you can hear it in all its glory.  'For Your Life' plays with the same quality with only one click towards the end.  'Royal Orleans' ends the side with wonderful audio again with just a hint of distortion here and there but does not impair the 'listening' in my opinion.  There are no clicks or crackle.
'Nobody's Fault But Mine' begins in stunning fashion with barely any static and then proceeds to play with fabulous audio with only a couple of light dust ticks.  Play it loud and there is no distortion and even the quiet section and brief silences have no 'background' whatsoever.  'Candy Store Rock' and 'Hots On For Nowhere' play with near faultless audio and are an incredible listen.  'Tea For One' ends the side with superb sound.  Many may grade it as Near Mint but you can hear the odd dust tick and a couple of light clicks.  The depth and clarity remains first class and perhaps I am being harsh but I write what I hear...although I do sit extremely close to my large speakers!  It still plays with wonderful sound and there is no intrusive crackle at all.
Gatefold cover
The gatefold is one of the best I have ever seen and is remarkably clean for over 40 years old.  What denotes it as a 1st/2nd press is that Led Zeppelin/Presence is embossed on the front cover and that the Swan Song 'Apollo' logo is embossed also on the back cover.  The edges and even the corners have no rubbing and the wide spine is in perfect condition.  The front and back of the cover remain so 'white' and unstained which is rarity.  There is one tiny mark on the front near the spine and a similar one on the back.  There is also very minor spotting near the spine on the reverse but you will be hard pressed to find such an early gatefold as clean and pure as this one.  The inside is in absolute immaculate condition, as new, and the opening edge doesn't look to have been handled at all.  A superb example of this gatefold.
Inner sleeve
This has the rough textured feel and is made of thicker paper that only the first pressings had.  It is in perfect condition and has no splits or marks at all.  Best I have ever seen.
The labels
They are both in stunning condition with no markings/writing and no spindle wear.
