Description
LED ZEPPELIN. Original and very rare 1973 black and white promotional poster to advertise the release of the single "D'YER MAKER" from the album "Houses Of The Holy". Houses of the Holy was released in March 1973. It featured experimentation with longer tracks and expanded use of synthesizers and mellotron orchestration. The track "Houses of the Holy" does not appear on it's name-sake album, even though it was recorded at the same time as other songs on the album, it eventually made it's way onto the 1975 album Physical Graffiti. The striking orange album cover of "Houses of the Holy" features images of nude children climbing up the Giant's Causeway (in County Antrim, Northern Ireland) to an unseen idol. Although the children are not depicted from the front, this was highly controversial at the time of the album's release, and in some countries, such as Spain and Australia the record cover was banned. The album topped the charts, and Led Zeppelin's subsequent Houses of the Holy concert tour of the United States in 1973 broke records for attendance, as they consistently filled large auditoriums and stadiums. At Tampa Stadium, Florida, they played to 56,800 fans (breaking the record set by The Beatles at Shea Stadium in 1965), and grossed $309,000. Three sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden in New York were filmed for a motion picture, but the theatrical release of this project (The Song Remains the Same) would be delayed until 1976.
"D'yer Maker" was released as a single in September 1973 and so this poster dates from just prior to that date for promotional reasons. This poster is in excellent all round condition, considering it's age, but does have a few pin holes and it has also been neatly clipped off at each corner with scissors at some stage in it's history. It measures exactly 24 inches by 17 inches, or, 610mm x 432mm. There are no tears, rips, or repairs, and there is no physical graffiti ! The paper is semi-glossy and of high quality gauge and stock with a nice sheen. The print quality is excellent. This is a very rare poster considering it's age of some 34 years, and that Led Zeppelin were not renowned for their 7 inch single releases, instead choosing to concentrate on their albums and live shows.
I will ship this poster carefully rolled in bubble wrap inside a secure tube with end caps. Please check out my other listings and my 100% feedback rating.
