LED ZEPPELIN- SELF TITLED
ATLANTIC 588 171 PLUM/RED - 1st UK PRESS 1969
One of the very earliest copies acording to matirx and mother stampers below!!!
You are bidding on a rare and one of the absolutely earliest copies of Led Zeppelin’s 1st album
The very 1st press came with the famous turquoise lettering and with the matrix numbers unaltered. This is the next one with the same A1/B1 matrix and with the matrix number 8 altered and handwritten in the dead wax.
Back in 1969 when this LP was first released on this label, it only ever sold in small amounts – and was immediately deleted. As a result it is extremely sought after as most have been bought by collectors. This is a real investment opportunity as the price of this album is only likely to increase. This is a lovely example, has a low start price and no reserve...
This copy has the rare "7 Arts" &“Warner Bros” credit on the label (see photo)(according to some Led Zeppelin connoisseurs, this version pre-dates the turquoise version by weeks..)
This is also one of the VERY EARLIEST copies possible - within first weeks of issue according to the mother stampers:
Matrix No Side 1:: 58#8171 A//1 Mother Stamper: " 1 2 2 2"
Matrix No Side 2: 58#8171 B//1 Mother stamper: "1 1 1".
Item Condition/Sound Quality:
Vinyl is EXCELLENT At first glance, the vinyl looks superb still retaining that jet black, glossy and lustrous appearance. When angled to the light you can see a few light hairlines but there is nothing deep or ugly and none of the hairlines marks affect audio. I have played this album through in its entireity and the sound is absolutely superbas you would expect from this early, heavy vinyl. High groove walls ensure a terrific listening experience. No jumps, or skips. A slight click which lasts for 20secs at the beginning of side 2. There is very light crackle in the quieter moments. (I have graded conservatively, using the Rare Record Collectors Price Guide).
Sleeve: VG. Printed and made by MacNeil Press Ltd. It has the Slogan “UPTIGHT AN’ OUTASIGHT is the official Atlantic Appreciation Society.” This is the 2nd sleeve issued, the first having the turquoise lettering; it has the grey strip at the bottom and is in great condition, considering its age. Front and back laminated and well preserved. It has a few underlaminate creases (mostly near the opening-see photo), with a few near the spine. The spine is strong and the spine text is clear and readable. There is very faint ringwear on both the front and back cover. There is a scuff about 30 mm long near the opening edge on the front. Overall though, considering the age of this item, a good sleeve. No splits, no tears and no graffiti. (I have graded conservatively , using the Record Collectors Price Guide).
Inner Sleeve: paper inner sleeve which houses the album has “plastic bags can be dangerous” printed and is in very good condition with some creases.
Labels: The iconic plum and red labels look superb (see photo) They are clean with no marks or graffiti with light spindle traces
