Condition : cover shows a few traces of minimal edge wear and in backlight you can see some small brownish spots immediately below the top edge of the front side, NEAR MINT / Obi stripe & insert are in great condition / vinyl has few minor signs which affect minimally listening with some slight clicks, EX+

GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : Lee Holdridge ha saputo ben confezionare una colonna sonora che data la tenerezza e drammaticità del film avrebbe potuto facilmente diventar preda per scontate e banali melodie lacrimevoli. Certamente la trama malinconica della storia non può evitargli di realizzare brani che riflettono atmosfere tristi ma il suono dei violini e del pianoforte hanno carattere asciutto e non indulgono a gratuiti pietismi. Inoltre il film, essendo ambientato soprattutto in Sud Africa, ci offre nella sua colonna sonora alcune musiche popolari condotte da strumenti a percussione e ritmici canti tradizionali del Lesotho ma in parte si svolge anche a New York dove in “Harlem Montage” (b3) le insistenti pulsazioni del basso insieme a percussioni e improvvisazioni dell'organo danno vita ad un buon ritmo funk.

I titoli dei diciotto brani con la loro durata possono esser letti guardando l'inserto raffigurato nella scansione n° 4.

Notes : Lee Holdridge has been able to compose a soundtrack that because of the film tenderness and drama could have easily become prey for expected and commonplace heartbreaking melodies. Certainly the melancholic story line cannot prevent him to realize pieces reflecting sad atmospheres but the sound of the violins and the piano has a dry nature and does not indulge in gratuitous pietism. In addition, the movie being set mostly in South Africa, offers us in its soundtrack some folk music led by percussion and traditional lively chants from Lesotho but partly also takes place in New York, where in "Harlem Montage" (b3) a thumping, pulsing bassline together with percussion and organ improvisations give life to a good funk rhythm.
