Description
Up for auction is a good copy of the Lee Morgan album "Search For The New Land" originally released on Blue Note Records (BLP 4169) in 1966. This is a guaranteed, authentic early Mono pressing with New York address labels, 43 W. 61st St. address on cover, and "VanGelder" stamped in the matrix. Not an import or later reissue.
Matrix reads:
Side 1: BNLP-4169-A VanGelder
Side 2 BNLP-4169-B VanGelder
Cover is in decent condition with signs of wear and previous handling. Front is still attractive, but it has some age discoloration along bottom edge, a small pen squiggle in lower right, and a spot in upper right that looks like it's been touched up with black marker (see photo). Corners are good, though a little rubbed. Seams look good, no splits, though bottom seam near opening is starting to crack about 1 inch. Back cover is still decent, with some age spotting, light ring wear, and some adhesion loss along left side. Overall, though, an acceptable, still intact original cover. Grade it Very Good (VG).
The vinyl is also in very good condition, still retains a lot of its original shine. It does have some hairline scratches and scuffs on both sides, but nothing deep or serious. Labels are clean but show some spindle trails. This record has been played several times, and it will probably play with some light surface/background noise here and there, but should sound fine once the music kicks in, especially when played in mono mode. Not audiophile clean, but still not thrashed or abused. Still a very good play copy. Grade the vinyl VG+/VG. Most would grade it VG+.
