LEE MORGAN - THE COOKER
Rare early press US Blue Note jazz gem
Excellent (EX) condition vinyl - completely flat, weighty and retaining much of it's original and impressive jet black sheen. No hairlines, scratches or obvious scuff marks - virtually unmarked with the single exception being a very light 3cm scuff line on side 2...non-feelable, non-obvious, purely superficial and not impinging upon the wonderful MONO sound quality. The all important early "9 M" and "RVG" are etched and stamped respectively into both run-off's. Clearly this is a record that has been sparingly played. Excellent (EX) condition labels : the "47 WEST 63rd NYC" blue text, synonymous with early Blue Note pressings, is clearly visible. The only blemish is some small and very light, faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. Very good plus (VG+) condition non-laminated outer sleeve manufactured from nice thick cardboard and with impressively firm edges (including a rigid spine) throughout. There are a few minor blemishes : an area of clearly noticeable label residue/scuffing at the top right corner on the front side (see photo), a smaller and much less obvious mark at the top left corner of the front side - again where a sticker once resided, the occasional light "nick" on each of the edges which otherwise remain in great condition, some mild rubbing on all corners each of which nonetheless remains a nicely defined right angle, the occasional very light abrasion/surface storage mark on the front side, x6 1-2cm very light surface crinkles adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side, "3/9" written in blue biro on the reverse side, and just the merest hint of some very, very light age discolouration towards the top and spine edge on the reverse side (very trivial). The reverse side is in overall excellent condition, with the text "43 West 61st St. New York 23" at the bottom edge - again, synonymous with early Blue Note pressings. Highly presentable and pretty good considering it's 60 year antiquity! Excellent plus (EX+) MONO audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, clicks, distortion, interference or background crackle - simply amazing, crystal clear MONO audio quality, with every track a great listen. Jazz greats Lee Morgan (trumpet), Pepper Adams (baritone sax), Bobby Timmons (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and "Philly" Joe Jones (drums) are in terrific form, making this one of the all-time great Blue Note albums. Comes with great condition original Blue note advertising inner sleeve, with no seam splits and barely any creasing or age discolouration. One of the truly great Blue Note LP's, with early pressings such as this so very hard to come across now.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
