Trumpeter Lee Morgan, then 18 and at the beginning of his career (his recording debut as a leader resulted in a Blue Note album the day before his brief stint with Savoy began), co-led this session with tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley. Pianist Hank Jones, bassist Doug Watkins, and drummer Art Taylor form a tasteful rhythm section behind the lead voices who are in fine form on Fats Navarro's "Nostalgia," originals by Mobley and Watkins, and a four-song ballad medley.  This hard bop-oriented LP gives one a good early look at Lee Morgan when he was just 18.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record has a ►Rudy Van Gelder name, or  his initials (RVG) stamped or hand-etched in the trail-off vinyl (dead wax). On SOME  Jazz labels (Blue Note, Savoy, Regent, Prestige, Impulse, Verve…) this stamp signifies highly professional masterings either done by - or  personally authorized by - the legendary engineer himself.

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split top seam (between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters)

-        Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.

-        Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease)  in one of the corners.

-        Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam   (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged  / bent.

-        A small stain of about 1 square inch in size noted on the back panel  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the spine (nothing significant)

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No ring wear

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
