Verve MGV-8232 Original Clef Label –
GREAT & VERY RARE!
This 1957 classic from Verve was captured at Newport that year and features the very fine playing of George Lewis on clarinet and Turk Murphy on trombone, both New Orleans revivalists who simply “killed” that day, July 6, over 50 years ago.
Very fine playing of BOURBON STREET PARADE, TIN ROOF BLUES, ROYAL GARDEN BLUES, THAT’S A PLENTY, ST. JAMES INFIRMARY, WEARY BLUES, and DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE, which is just fabulous.
This is the original Clef release, here in a cover that is crisp, without fault; inside, the MGM heavy platter should play NM- to VG+.
Rare jazz, indeed. Among the classics.
