Those with a love of Latin jazz and salsa should be familiar with the work of Peruvian pianist Afredo Linares; during the 1970s and early '80s, he was renowned for adding authentic Cuban swing and Venezualean tropical-salsa influences to his own fine, piano-powered compositions. Lo Que Tengo is probably the best example of Linares in his peak years and arguably his finest single album. It was originally released in 1980 under a different title (Con Todo! To be exact). Richly percussive, full of expressive vocals and blessed with some fine horn arrangements, the album's eight exuberant tracks cannily join the dots between salsa, bolero and guaguanco, with Linares being joined by some of Venezuela's top salsa musicians of the time.
