LISTEN TO MY EYES UNKNOWN BAND UNRELEASED(?) RARE 60's GARAGE PSYCH ACETATE #2

This is a single-sided 45 RPM 10" METAL ACETATE single by an unknown garage/psychedelic group of the song "Listen To My Eyes" (attributed to the publisher Absolutely Music) on the Tower Sound label. I have two different acetate versions of this song by possibly the same group up for auction this week, this one is the slower of the two with an even more psychedelic sound during the bridge with piano flourishes and published by Absolutely Music, while the other is faster and the publisher is listed as GNU Music.

This song has a really cool, march-like, garagey-psychedelic sound and I have no idea if this song was ever released or if this is a demo disc meant to help sell the song to a band. All in all this song is pretty great, the playing is tight and the vocals sound really strong and is well-produced. Hey man, I really dig this sound and I think you will too!!! Now this is interesting... on the sleeve of the other acetate of this same song, I found that the paper sleeve lists the penned name of "Billy Barberis" - the name meant nothing to me, but after checking on BMI.com, I found that he co-wrote this song with Dom Flores and Robert Ronga. And with a little more research, I found that Barberis and Ronga co-wrote the song Pretty Painted Carousel and In New Orleans as recorded by The Banana Splits with songwriter Aaron Schroeder, who's famous for co-writting the song It's Now Or Never and Big Hunk o' Love for Elvis.

Now I can't tell you if this recording of Listen To My Eyes features Barberis as singer or musician, but it is a bit of background that might point you in the right direction as to who recorded this track and whether it was released. Interestingly, in the June 4, 1966 issue of Billboard magazine, there's an article touting the Warner Bros. recording act, The New Order, of You've Got Me High fame (garage/psych), of which Billy Barberis was one of the singers. But there's just no way to tell if this acetate is by The New Order, another Barberis related band or a band having no involvement at all from Barberis. It's times like these, that get me frustrated, that such cool music goes unattributed by name, and may never be known, respected and attributed to the band that recorded it.

Just a note for those unfamiliar with metal acetates - these records are extra heavy from the center of the record being made of metal. These records are the first versions ever made from the master tapes (even before test pressings or promo copies and sound the best) for the purpose of feedback on the mix by those involved in the recording process. These discs were expensive to make, so very few, if no more than a handful are usually made and as you can imagine, these discs are quite RARE and sometimes the mixes can be different from the final release. These were never meant to be available to the public, so in you're a fan or collector, now's your chance to get something extrememely RARE!!!

The vinyl on this 45 is in excellent condition with a couple whispy sleeve marks and plays solidly!!! There's a small bit of sticker residue on the label. I didn't attempt any physical cleaning on this fragile Acetate, for fear of damage. If you wish to physically clean it or even import it into your computer to edit it to make it sound as pristine, I'll leave that up to you.
