Description
I am parting with some of my treasured LPs. Here's a great record from 1961. It is the ORIGINAL MONO PRESSING, and in great shape. The front cover is beautiful with great colors and a shine to it. There are corner bumps, most notably on top left, and the top seam is taped. The back cover is in beautiful condition with no color fading, but a stamp inked halfway up on the sleeve side with an owner's name and address. I would have been proud to have owned this LP in 1961 too. The LP itself on the BLACK KING LONG PLAY LABEL is in amazing condition. It plays in NM condition on both sides, and the labels show some spindle marks, but are otherwise beautiful.
LITTLE WILLIE JOHN was an interesting artist. He was a very early R&B/SOUL STAR. His LP FEVER was a major wake up call, and lit the fire that influenced many other artists, notably James Brown who idolized Little Willie John. He had many hits, and The Beatles recorded his LEAVE MY KITTEN ALONE in 1964. He suffered from alcohol abuse, and in1964, just a few years after this LP was released he went into a rage after a concert in Seattle, and knifed another person to death. He was convicted of manslaughter, and went to Washington State Penitentiary. His death in prison was mysterious. It was either due to a heart attack or Pneumonia. Devastated after John's conviction, James Brown would title an album THINKING OF LITTLE WILLIE JOHN. His LP's in the 50's sold well for a black R&B SOUL artist, but they are now quite rare, and especially in great playing condition.
I love original original pressings because I feel every LP is of it's time and place. The vinyl, and record pressings are all from that moment in time, and no re-pressing or re-mastering will ever make the sound better for me.
