LOBBY LLOYDE COLOURED BALLS
with BILLY THORPE & LEO DE CASTRO

"Summer Jam" LP
Label /Catalogue number:
Mushroom anti-Rip Off , Cat. No. L-25,073
Vinyl format:
12" Stereo LP, 33 rpm
Release date: 1973 Details of Pressing: Original press,  Australia
Information:    This live album was recorded between 3.30am and 4.45am on 29th January, 1973 at the legendary Sunbury 73 Rock Festival, Melbourne, Australia. On track 1, both Billy Thorpe (Aztecs) & Le De Castro ( Friends) join Lobby & the Coloured Balls for an extended blues rock workout on 'Help Me/Rock Me Baby'.
The other 3 remaining tracks are just the Lobby Lloyde Coloured Balls exploding with  blues rock/heavy metal energy.
This recording is particularly notable as it features Lloyde's legendary 16 minute,  showpiece 'God' , "a searing cosmic heavy metal epic that surely stands as one of the greatest performances ever recorded by an Australian band of the era." (Ian McFarlane , 2006)

This rare LP would be an extremely worthy addition to any collection of 70's Aussie progressive blues rock.

CONDITION: (Please refer to grading criteria used below)

Vinyl: Side 1 VG , Side 2 VG+

The vinyl is in overall VG to VG+ condition. There is noticeable crackle at the beginning of each side due to the quiet intros of each song , probably more so on Side 1. However, once the songs get underway, the powerful dynamics easily overpower any surface noise. The labels are extremely clean.

Cover: Front cover VG+, Rear cover VG

Front cover in VG+ condition with great colour saturation . There is some creasing on the upper right-hand corner. Rear cover in VG condition showing  ringwear and associated marks plus three minor tears along the sleeve opening (see scans). There is no writing on either front or rear cover.

GRADING CRITERIA

NEAR MINT (NM)

Vinyl : Appears virtually flawless. Obviously handled with extreme care. Superb lustre to vinyl. A couple of minor surface sleeve scuffs (at most) may be present but are hard to see and do not affect sound. Plays perfectly with negligible noise.

Covers: Artwork close to perfect with only minor signs of wear and/or age. Minor impressions to the cover (due to the outer edge of the vinyl resting inside) may be present.

EXCELLENT (EX)

Vinyl : Minimal wear to vinyl, with excellent lustre. Minor surface scuffs (no more than 15% of the surface) are visible but only slightly. No scratches. Play is excellent with minimal noise.

Cover : Artwork close to perfect. Some impression to the cover (minor outer ring wear) but no ink wear. There may be some slight creases to the corners, but not wrinkled and obtrusive to the eye. The corners can show slight wear. No seam splits, writing on the cover or taped repairs.

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)

Vinyl : The vinyl will show some wear, surface scuffs and some very light scratches to no more than 30% of its surface. Still has great lustre and looks as though it has been handled with care. Plays extremely well with no obtrusive clicks or pops. There may be small writing on the record label(s).

Cover : Artwork looks clean with slightly more ageing. Flat white paper on back of cover may be slightly yellow due to ageing. No stains or mildew from water damage. Some minor wear to the seams or spine, but no tears or holes popping through. The corners will be slightly dog eared yet no crackly bends defacing the artwork. There may be small writing on front and/or rear of cover.

VERY GOOD (VG)

Vinyl : The vinyl appears to have been well played but still has some lustre. The vinyl may be faded, slightly grayish, because of the surface scuffs and light scratches to greater than 30% of the surface. There will almost always be some surface noise when the record is played. The dynamics are still excellent however, overpowering the surface noise. The surface noise will be minor crackle or a slight hiss, but should only be heard in between tracks or in low musical passages. The occasional click or pop may be present but no jumps or skips. The record still plays very well. There may be small writing on the record label(s).

Cover : The cover looks worn and used but still has some attractiveness. There may be some seam splitting and ring wear, where the ink has begun to wear off, plus some writing on the front and/or rear cover. It will look aged and more yellowish due to contaminants in the air. No taped seams or water damage.

GOOD (G)

Vinyl : The record looks very well played, dull, grayish and with many scuffs and scratches. It still plays OK without skips or jumps but has distracting surface noise, such as crackle or hiss that is continually heard plus some loss of dynamics caused from grooves being worn. Several loud clicks or pops may be present during play. There may be small writing on the record label(s).

Cover : Cover is very worn, however, some artwork of value can still be noticed. Seam splits (possibly taped and repaired, but only with scotch tape), ring wear with much ink loss, some writing and tears may be present.
