This extremely rare EP was released in 1962 on the
MGM label in Germany. It features five classic pieces
(yes five, not the standard four) from the original
soundtrack recording of Stanley Kubrick's
landmark movie, all in brilliant original mono.
The iconic laminated picture sleeve is in VG condition,
with Sue Lyon pictured on both sides. It has
a few scuffs and marks, a bit of edge wear and ring wear ,
but nothing too serious: it is still a true
pleasure to behold. (Please see the photos above
which are scans of the actual item on offer.)
As to the record itself, it is VG+++. All five tracks
play thru beautifully. It has the original 'spider web' center,
and the vinyl looks sleek and gorgeous. Pressed in
Germany by the legendary Deutsche Grammophon
company, it is pure listening joy. The majestic
Love Theme From Lolita, written by Bob Harris,
conducted by Nelson Riddle and featuring Gil Grau's
fantastic orchestration, could never sound better.
Important note: the legendary song Lolita Ya Ya
featured on this EP is the gorgeous, full 3 minute 25 second
soundtrack version. It is not the same as Sue Lyon's 45 rpm
single, which is a minute shorter and has near identical
orchestration. And it is not the same as Nelson Riddle's
own 45 rpm single version, which had a similar,
but noticeably different arrangement.
Wonderful, extremely hard-to-find EP, and a real gem
for Kubrick buffs, Sue Lyon fans and soundtrack collectors.
