L'ORCHESTRE NATIONAL "A" DE LA RÉPUBLIQUE DU MALI : Rare Vinyl LP
(Bärenreiter / Musicaphon BM 30 L 2605)

Condition: NEAR-MINT

Description : Bärenreiter/Musicaphon's legendary and long unavailable series of Malian recordings made around 1970 in conjunction with the Ministry of Information documented the full range of Malian music of that golden age, including the contemporary regional Afrobeat orchestras who were using Malian folklore as the basis for modern dance music - this is part of the series "The Best of the First Biennale of Arts and Culture for the Young, 1970". Apart from tracks on compilations, none have been re-issued on CD.

The National Orchestra "A" were led by the mighty Kélétigui Diabate and guitarist Djelimadi Tounkara, later to lead the iconic Super Rail Band, with Magan Ganessy on vocals.
