DESCRIPTION:
"A most immaculately hip aristocrat," Lord Buckley was the epitome of comedy cool; a onetime vaudeville performer and a hulking ex-lumberjack, he was a comic philosopher, a bop monologuist whose vocalese fused the rhythms and patois of the street with the arch sophistication of the British upper crust to create verbal symphonies unparalleled in their intricacy and dexterity. A comedian who didn't tell jokes and a word-jazz virtuoso riffing madly on the English language, Buckley combined the frenetic intensity of Beat poetry with the lessons and moral heft of Biblical tales and historical discourse; holding court over the "hipsters, flipsters, and finger-poppin' daddies" of the postwar era, he was a true visionary, the original rapper.
A mad comic genius, Lord Buckley looked a little like Salvador Dali, dressed in a tux, and performed hipster interpretations of well-known scences and speeches. "The Nazz" (which Todd Rundgren later took as the name of his first group) was his riff on the crucifixion of Jesus (the Nazarene). This page's title comes from Lord Buckley's translation of Mark Anthony's funeral oration in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar:
Hipsters, flipsters,

Buckley always rubbed the establishment the wrong way, and his death in 1960 came from a stroke his family said was brought on by the seizure of his union card by the New York City Police for some misdemeanor.
CONDITION:
VINYL (play- & visually graded): VG(+), plays great, some surface noise.
COVER: VG++, some discoloration on back.

It is in a new, non-static, high-density plastic inner sleeve; the cover is protected with a clear plastic outer sleeve.
PROFESSIONAL PACKAGING: Record is removed from cover, inserted into the custom-made plastic outer sleeve along with the cover, then nestled in a protective two-layer bed of bubble wrap. Then it goes into a secure, crush-resistant new box. No split seams or mashed corners. (In the case of sealed records, we will not open them unless asked.)
