Four years after Lord Huron released their magnificent fourth album Long Lost, we find the Los Angeles four-piece - who formed in 2010 and are fronted by Ben Schneider - in top shape for their fifth studio album. To their credit they managed to land spoken word verses from none other than Hollywood star Kristen Stewart on the single 'Who Laughs Last' - it pays to be Los Angeles-based, it seems. Elsewhere on the album, 'Nothing I Need' is some of the finest nu-Americana since Fleet Foxes, 'Bag of Bones' is a more eclectic offering combining the heft of shoegaze with the sparkle of baroque pop and the emotional intensity of folk rock. 'Looking Back' is a great shadowy noir folk cut with a rousing cinematic finish. Lord Huron are ambitious and likely going to go up and up in the world off the back of this terrific album.
