"Lord Sitar grooves with a contemporary blend of sounds that mixes the haunting, ancient celebration of the sitar with the exciting elements of NOW!" At least that's how the back of the album jacket describes the enigmatic "Lord Sitar"'s sole album from 1968 on the Capitol label. This grandaddy of all go-go sitar exploito albums was released in the heyday of all things Indian and mystic, and rumors abounded as to WHO this mysterious LORD Sitar was - some even thought it was George Harrison in disguise (hey, it was the Beatles label after all, and Lord covers "Blue Jay Way"). Well, it wasn't George - it turned out to be sitar/guitarist Big Jim Sullivan. But Jim apparently had no shortage of ego, giving himself less-than-humble monikers like BIG Jim Sullivan and LORD Sitar, and here on this LP, tackling such beloved (and difficult) songs as "I Am the Walrus", "I Can See For Miles", "Eleanor Rigby" and...uh..."If I Were A Rich Man" from Fiddler on the Roof??? I wonder if he MEANT to record "Baby You're a Rich Man"???? It's quintessential 60's exploito go-go pop, a perfect soundtrack to your next mod Swinging London party! Sure it's tacky as all getout, but that's what makes it so wondrous. Just relax, float downstream, and pay attention when the liner notes warn you that this "isn't music, precisely, to 'bend your mind', nor to meditate by, with the scent of sandalwood in the air. It's entertainment. And it's a gas." Original 1968 stereo pressing on the US Capitol label. Cover in VG++ shape with some minor ringwear. Vinyl plays VG++.
