Super rare - saw this ONCE for sale here and I was the one who bought it! So now I'm passing it on, having listened to it and dubbed it to CDR for posterity. If you're like me and you thought the bulk of Mexican acid rock started and ended with the Dug Dug's, you oughta check this one out - from the ashes of old beat band Los Locos del Ritmo comes this lone release as the streamlined (and ultra-heavy) Los Locos in 1971. They're fans of Pink Floyd, that's for sure - opener and single "Viva Zapata" lifts the melody from "Biding My Time" and adds some occasional flamenco touches (because this was Mexico after all). Second track "Hey" sounds naggingly similar to an old 60's psych song I can't quite place, and here's where they start showing off the great tones and wailing leads of the guitarists (they had two, maybe three). It's not all heavy hairy early 70's guitar rock, however - the groovy "Let's Make A Bet" is a shimmering slice of organ-led lounge coolness. And the killer instrumental "Huapango" is all dancefloor go-go piano groove with lacings of cool fuzz guitar. Longest track here, "Primo," at a positively epic 5:03 for these guys, starts off like a game show theme, then dramatically slows to a sad, apocalyptic anti-war protest heavy, with more of that double and triple wailing acid guitar. Okay, I'll give 'em Kaleidoscope, El Ritual and Renaissance, but to get those original albums, you'll have to sell off your Camry. Los Locos is still a little undiscovered, and maybe that's because no one's bothered to reissue it yet. And in these times when it seems like every little unreleased garage band from Kansas has a high quality Akarma reissue, what's keeping someone from reissuing this unheralded hairy Mexican psych rock gem anyway?
Let's be honest - vinyl grading these days is very subjective. That's why I'll give you some soundclips with each auction so you can judge for yourself how the album sounds - every clip comes from the album you're bidding on. I'd say this one plays VG+ to VG++, but you can listen to the soundclips at the very bottom of this listing.
I will combine shipping on multiple wins, nudge nudge wink wink say no more. Domestic US shipping is $4 per album at media mail rates, with each additional album adding just $1 more. Shipping to Canada is $15 for the first album, $3 each additional. Shipping everywhere else is $24 for the first album, $5 for each thereafter.
