This album, with excellent sound, immortalizes the warm first recording of Jazz legends Louis Armstrong, trumpet & vocal and Duke Ellington, piano & composer, over 50 years ago. They are backed by Trummy Young, trombone; Barney Bigard, clarinet; Mort Herbert, bass; and Danny Barcelona, drums.
The music includes famous Ellington tunes: Side One, 1. Dukes Place. 2. I’m Just a Lucky So and So. 3. Cotton Tail. 4. Mood Indigo. 5. Do Nothin’ Till You Hear From Me. Side Two, 1. The Beautiful American. 2. Black and Tan Fantasy. 3. Drop Me Off in Harlem. 4. The Mooche. 5. In a Mellowtone.
The album was titled Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington Recording Together for the First Time, from the Roulette Birdland Series, released in 1961 numbered R52074.
We play-graded the recording as NM-, with warm monophonic sound. We listen to all records to avoid surprises.
The vinyl has good luster, with a few minor paper scuffs and micro scratches that do not appear to sound, VG++.
The gatefold cover grades a strong VG+. The cover graphic is sharp, the corners show small dings, and the white background shows minor wear. The back cover has wear in the lower left corner. The inside is clean and sharp. The cover is clean and sound structurally.
