LOUIS ARMSTRONG Louis Under The Stars VERVE MONO DG LP A VG ORIGINAL LP ON VERVE MG V-4012

FROM 1957 A RARE DEEP GROOVE PRESSING WITH LONG PLAYING MICROGROOVE VERVE RECORDS INC - MADE IN USA ON BOTTOM OF LABEL

8 TRACKS INCLUDE TOP HAT WHITE TIE AND TAILS, HAVE YOU MET MISS JONES, I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU, STORMY WEATHER, HOME, EAST OF THE SUN AND WEST OF THE MOON, YOU'RE BLASE, BODY AND SOUL

COVER STOCK WITH LIGHT RUB AND RING WEAR. CORNERS WITH SMALL ROUGH SPOTS ON POINT. TOP EDGE SPLIT SLEEVE SIDE ABOUT EIGHT INCHES. BACK WITH LIGHT OVERALL AGE DISCOLORATION AND A SMALL TAPE WIDTH OUTER LOSS AREA ON SPINE EDGE TOWARDS TOP.

VIRGIN SPINDLE HOLE. THE HIGH LUSTER VINYL BLANK APPEARS AT FIRST GLANCE TO HAVE NEVER BEEN PLAYED. UNDER BRIGHT ANGLED LIGHT, A FEW LIGHT SURFACE RUB MARKS ON SIDE B. THE SIDE A SIDE HAS SOME IMPERFECTIONS IN THE GROOVE LINE IN THE 1ST AND 2ND TRACKS, ONLY THE SECOND TIME WE'VE COME ACROSS THIS ON A VERVE RECORD. A FEW OF THE GROOVES ARE SLIGHTLY RAISED TO THE TOUCH. ON PLAY, THEY ELICIT EITHER A LIGHT CLICK OR A SLIGHT JUMP AHEAD IN THE TRACK MUSIC, ALTHOUGH THEY DO PLAY THROUGH. NOT A VERY TERRIBLE DISTRACTION, BUT PRESENT IN THE 1ST TWO TRACKS A FEW TIMES AND THE REASON THIS OTHERWISE MINT MINUS APPEARING LP IS GRADED VG AND PRICED ACCORDINGLY, EVEN THOUGH THIS RARELY SEEN PRESSING NOW FETCHES 100 PLUS.

PLEASE NOTE THE VINYL DESCRIPTION IS ONLY A VISUAL INSPECTION UNLESS OTHERWISE MENTIONED

Review
by Scott Yanow
One of the lesser-known Louis Armstrong sets, this album was recorded during the same day that resulted in his similar I've Got the World on a String. The great trumpeter/singer is backed by a string orchestra arranged and conducted by Russ Garcia. He performs eight veteran standards, only one of which ("Body and Soul") was associated with him in the past. Although the accompaniment is pretty straight and unadventurous, it is enjoyable to hear Satch's interpretations of such songs as "Have You Met Miss Jones," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Home" and "East of the Sun." Many of his trumpet solos during the medium-tempo material are brief but dramatic, and his singing is typically expressive and good-humored. This obscurity was reissued very quietly by Polygram on CD in the mid-1990s.

AND, LASTLY, PLEASE DO REMEMBER SOUND QUALITY IS AFFECTED BY WHAT THE VINYL IS PLAYED ON! IF YOUR STEREO SYSTEM HAS BEEN CAREFULLY CHOSEN AND ASSEMBLED FOR IT'S AURAL QUALITIES AND YOU PERFORM BASIC MAINTENANCE LIKE CLEANING YOUR VINYL, CLEANING THE NEEDLE AFTER EACH PLAY, AND REPLACING THE CARTRIDGE WHEN NEEDED, YOUR LPS SHOULD SOUND QUITE GOOD.

PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT CONDITIONS OF SALE:
GRADING & POLICIES: ALL RECORDS ARE VISUALLY GRADED AND THE RED GRADE REFERS ONLY TO THE STATE OF VINYL......YOU PLAY THE VINYL AND NOT THE COVER....COVER IS NOTED SEPARATELY. IF I'VE LISTENED TO THE LP IT WILL BE NOTED. The following is a general overview about grades, subject to any above notations: MINT indicates pristine vinyl without any marks on surface. MINT MINUS may contain a few very light surface rub marks from play or sleeve wear under light. If you are a real collector, you'll know that even a factory sealed LP occasionally has some light sleeve or rub marks. Anything in the VG category would contain some light and fine surface play lines and or have some other visible signs of ring or hole wear. Rarely do I offer something in the "G" state. If I do, it's usually a rare LP and priced accordingly. Values are assigned according to market availability, rarity and my experience in the business for over 25 years, not a price guide or any other standard.

YOUR SATISFACTION: Your positive feedback and excellent seller rating of 5 in each category is very important to me. I try to give as much detail as possible about appearance and condition. Should your purchase not meet your expectations please contact me before leaving feedback and detailed seller rating. YOUR SATISFACTION IS OF PRIME IMPORTANCE TO ME. Do you know how the Ebay Seller Ratings System works? Did you know that even a 4 rating is a bad rating for a seller? With most rating systems of 1 to 5(highest), you would expect a "4" to be a very good rating and a "5" to be an excellent/highest rating. You purchase an item on Ebay and the product, service, communications or fees were very good but not great. You give the seller all 4's thinking this is very good.(Most rating systems equate 1=lowest, 2=fair, 3=good, 4=very good, 5=highest). Unfortunately this is not how it works on EBAY as of May 2008. ONLY A "5" IS A GOOD RATING. The lowest acceptable average for each category is 4.6; below that a seller receives a "NEEDS WORK" and their standings in the listings are lowered. SURPRISING BUT TRUE AND SEEMINGLY UNFAIR.
