Very glossy vinyl has some light scratches/scuffs that mostly do not affect play. Lp plays bright, clear and bold with occasional low-level background tics. No loud clicks, pops or skips. 1st issue Gold "Big E" ELEKTRA labels are pristine both sides. .

Clean, crisp cover has no perceptible wear; no writing or soil. One corner crease. Seams and spine 100% intact with no wear or splits.

LOVE's first LP - a psychedelic-garage-punk masterpiece

Influenced by the folk-rock sound of fellow west coast groups like the Byrds and The Leaves (Love was based in Los Angeles), the album tore through manic rave-ups, waded through scary blues-harp dirges, introduced hallucinogenic instrumentals and managed to sound like the Byrds, the Kinks and the Yardbirds, while maintaining a unique style accented by Arthur Lee's empassioned vocals.

The album also included LOVE's first and biggest hit, "My Little Red Book" (a moody, alienated deconstruction of a minor Bacharach/David tune which was a huge West Coast hit and peaked at #52 nationwide). Along with the Byrd's "Fifth Dimension", this LP was a major influence on Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett, who would record one of psychedelia's greatest album, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" in early 1967. The album also featured a wild punk-fuzz version of the folk song, "Hey Joe" which was later to be recorded by the Byrds and The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

The song list is close to a set-list Love would play when they were the house band at the Whiskey during the 1966 youth-quake. The Sunset Strip riots became the harbinger of the social explosion of the Sixties and began at a club called Ciro's when police attempted to arrest under-aged youth for curfew violations. The Strip erupted as police and "freaks" battled for liberated turf. Of all of the bands playing the Strip in '66 Love had the largest following. Bands like the Doors, Mothers of Invention and Buffalo Springfield were opening acts when Love played. It was ground zero in the explosion of psychedelica and Love steered the course.

Great tracks simply abound on this LP full of jewels. Many of the Arthur Lee compositions are the equals of the Velvet Underground's for dark, atmospheric tunes -and even when he's bleak (Signed D.C."/"Message To Pretty", you feel truly enriched for having heard them, rather than being drained, as Lou Reed's songs usually leave us.

The raw garage crunch of "Can't Explain", the haunting fuzz poetry of "My Flash On You",  the disconsolate, lovelorn beauty of "Message To Pretty", and of course the incredible desolation of the mighty "Signed D.C." (a true story, re. Lee having to let go of his drummer - and best friend because of hopeless Heroin addiction), the baroque folk-jangle of Brian MacLean's "Softly To Me" ... to psychedelic garage vignettes like "Gazing", "Colored Balls Falling" and "Mushroom Clouds"

For many, "Love Forever Changes" is the apex -probably because it was so surprising when it arrived, but this FIRST LP - and to a large extent the follow-up "De Capo" are far more groundbreaking, compelling and liberating -some of the very best music to ever come out of L.A.

Love's impact on music begins with this self titled debut -Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and indeed The Byrds are all quoted as being strongly influenced and effected by LOVE and in lavishing praise and acknowledging their debt.

LOVE's self titled debut is one of the great albums of the sixties.
