Dam*, this has a low rating here. I wonder if people are rating it in relation to 'Forever Changes' or on it's own merits. There is enough good happening here to at least justify it being a better than average album. 'Everlasting First' is a great, energetic, rocking opener. 'Stand Out' (even if it is live-check that energy!) and 'Keep On Shining', while different, are both beautifully done and the melodies of each are guaranteed to ping pong around your head for days afterwards (at least they do with me). 'Ride That Vibration' is a nice closer. The guitar playing throughout is up front and stellar. 'Slick Dick' must at least get a bit of a grin when you first hear it. While not the statement album of Love's best, there is enough good stuff happening here to make it a nice, at times interesting, listen. If you really enjoy 'Four Sail' or 'Out Here' then expect to enjoy 'False Start' too.

Grossly and unjustly underrated, overlooked and neglected Love's sixth album included Jimi Hendrix on one track (“Everlasting First”), but, take our word, the album is actually much, much better than its reputation implies. Mighty hard to find in decent condition. Finding a still sealed original copy?!?! Forget it – not even a HOPE!!! This may be the last one you will ever see.

Of all the albums by other artists Jimi Hendrix played on (and there is only a handful of those - we can think of about 5-8 titles at most; works by Love, Stephen Stills,  Heir Apparent, Timothy Leary, Isley Brothers, Cat Mother…), this Love collaboration is one of tougher pieces to find and, last time we checked, it was unavailable on compact disc or any other format in more than a decade. Miss out this mega-rarity only if you are stoned silly.

(b)         The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
