WE BELIEVE THAT THE LABEL ASSIGNED TWO DIFFERENT NUMBERS IN ERROR AND THAT EITHER BOTH WERE ORIGINAL PRESSINGS OR THAT 9000 (COUNTERINTUITIVELY) ACTUALLY PRECEDES 8709. EITHER WAY, BOTH PRESSINGS DEFINITELY PRECEDE BLUE THUMB'S DISTRIBUTION CONTRACTS WITH EITHER CAPITOL, OR ABC RECORDS (1970 AND BEYOND). This set marked several firsts for Love. Not only was Out Here (1969) their initial foray away from the Elektra imprint, it would be their only double-LP package. After the relative failure of Forever Changes (1967), co-founder Arthur Lee (vocals/rhythm guitar) disbanded the unit and then re-formed with Frank Fayad (bass), George Suranovich (drums), Jay Donnellan (lead guitar), and Gary Rowles (lead guitar). Granted, it's certainly not the greatest work in their catalog. However, Out Here is proof that Lee's faculties for quirky and personable pop and rock compositions had yet to elude him. The results -- unquestionably a mixed bag -- present listeners with evidence of the combo's increasingly heavier approach, as well as a few selections that hearken back to the lighter whimsy of the earlier ensemble. The latter circumstance is clearly demonstrated, ranging from the acoustic introspection of "Listen to My Song," to the full-blown group jam on the 11-plus minute "Love Is More Than Words or Better Late Than Never" featuring Rowles' inspired electric fretwork. The update of "Signed D.C." -- the original having been a key component of Love's 1966 self-titled debut -- is given a weightier blues-fueled edge that remains drenched in the emotive angst of its precursor. The band's subsequent (and final) outing False Start (1970) continued mining the same heavy metal vein tapped on "I'm Down" and the suitably wordless "Instra-Mental"." While not exactly throwaways, "Abalony," "Discharged," and the droll funeral procession ode "Car Lights on in the Daytime Blues" are more filler than killer. Still, all in all, Arthur Lee enthusiasts can discover plenty of music to Love on Out Here.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The records are  pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a small cutout hole in one of the corners

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1.

-         The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the front side  (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)
