1973?
(Reissue of Buddah BDM/BDS 5001 1967)
I bought this LP new in July 1974.
Cover - Shrink on. Cutout hole bottom left. Price tag on shrink. 1/4 inch split bottom open end. Little other shelving/handling evidence.
Vinyl - Some rubs, light marks. Side B has some of the label torn away near the spindle hole.
Sleeve - Black paper with BUDDAH picture and print. No cutout hole, but one bottom corner was folded (crease) so maybe that accounts for it. 1-2 inch split at bottom center.
Deadwax:
Side A: BDS 5063 A SON STERLING
Side B: BDS 5063 B SON STERLING
Pressing Rings 70mm
Vinyl weight 4 1/8 oz, 117g
SON indicates this was pressed at the Sonic Recording Products, Inc. plant.
On that site it has 1970, 1973, 1974 as reissues with this catalog number.
bsnpubs only lists 1970 as reissue date for this catalog number, BDS 5063.
bsnpubs and cvinyl both have this label beginning in 1972.
Both the Sonic 1973 and 1974 indicate only these brown, pink rim labels on Discogs.
Both show the same Runout markings.
The Discogs 1973 labels, like mine, have 2 lines of print below the spindle hole.
The Discogs 1974 labels show no printing below the spindle hole.
So this, which I bought in July 1974 as a cutout, is probably from 1973. That’s according to the Discogs entries which I can’t dispute or verify.
It is Captain Beefheart though, with Ry Cooder!
Clowning and Rocking through 12 unique songs.
