I received this in December 1968, for Christmas.

Cover - White front cover with black print.  Gatefold, so no shrink.  No writing.  Yellowing at spine.  Some spots and 2 horizontal lines partly across the bottom 1/2 of the white cover.  Some perimeter handling evidence.  Mild scrapings (discoloring) on back.  The top corner of the open sleeve has a 1/4 inch split.  The middle of the top open sleeve has a 1 inch or so split.  The inside of the gatefold looks virtually new.

Vinyl - Some rubs/smudge streaks.  Some thin lines.  No affect on play.  

Sleeve - Clear plastic.

Insert Booklet - 9” X 9”.  8 pages, counting front and back covers.  Spine stapled.  Some finger bends from looking at it several times.  No writing, no tearing.  Pictures of Muddy getting his hair prettied up.

dh - Don Holden, engineer.  looks like d and h sharing the long stem. Upside down looks like Lp.

 o   - Maybe the omega symbol, an id for a mystery engineer who worked at the Ter Mar studios.

A 3 on side 1 - I’m sure of the A, not sure of the 3.

Since this was released in October 1968 (only date I can find) and I received it at Xmas 1968, this should be considered a first pressing.  The capital I (eye) indicates an RCA Indianapolis pressing.

Muddy Waters is my Number 1 guy for postwar Chicago-style electric blues.  This record is NOT Muddy with Otis Spann, Little Walter, James Madison, Willie Dixon etc.  But it sure is fun to listen to.  Muddy’s vocals still boom out.  A little extra fun by the band when they add a bit of “Sunshine Of Your Love” and “My Girl”.

The inside gatefold picture and the insert booklet augment the different approach to Muddy’s music.  This is not the album to introduce someone to Muddy Waters.  But for his believers it’s a real delight.   On line sites offer contemporary reviews, many by critics who take things far too seriously.

Lighten up, crank it up, enjoy.
