On offer here is the crushingly rare and in demand Modern/Free Improvisation Jazz LP (especially in this condition!!!!) called "GYROSCOPE" by THE GORDON BECK TRIO.

This is the original 1969 UK 1st pressing on the Morgan label MJ 1. Any fan of Gordon Beck or serious collector of the Modern/Free Improvisation Jazz scene will want to have this staggering gem in their collection!!!! 

The personnel line up is:

Gordon beck (piano), Jeff Clyne (bass) and Tony Oxley (drums)

The track listing is:

Side One: "Gyroscope"; "Clusters"; "Suite No. 1". 

Side Two: "Miss T Flying; "Sincerity"; "And Still She Is With Me"; "Oxus".

The compositions on Gyroscope, all by the pen of Gordon Beck except for one trio credit, are pleasant post-bop launching pads. Played with lesser musicians, they may have come off as trite and derivative, as might much British jazz (for a criminally ignored region of jazz, the Brits might have had the highest concentration of notable musicians to be found in one city—London). It was the inventiveness of his “backing band” that pushed the pieces and the leader far past their potential. Oxley, who would go on to play with Howard Riley, didn’t stay supportive for very long, adding his free ideas to the mix very quickly, most notably on the title track “Gyroscope”, “Suite No. 1” and the lengthy closer “And Still She Is With Me/Oxus”. While closer to the more traditional jazz played by the likes of Johnny Dankworth and Tubby Hayes (Beck’s former employer), the open experimentation of the Spontaneous Music Ensemble and John Surman were bound to have an effect in a scene as small as late '60s London. This open clash of styles stands as a period document and makes Gyroscope a compelling listen.

THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY RARE JAZZ LP, VERY HIGHLY SOUGHT-AFTER, ON THE WANTS LISTS OF MANY FRUSTRATED COLLECTORS AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND.  ASK YOURSELF WHEN YOU'LL NEXT SEE ANY COPY, LET ALONE ONE AS SUPERB AS THIS, OFFERED FOR SALE???!!!  SO, DON'T MISS OUT!!!!

The record labels are in STUNNING condition with NO writing, NO wear and NO spindle marks; just a library stamp on both sides.  The disc itself has seemingly been barely played, but has a few light lines more to do with handling and is strictly graded at EXCELLENT (plus)!!!! The sleeve has a few laminate wrinkles (not creases) and a cut corner.  There are some archive labels on front and back that may be removable if done carefully; I'll leave this to the winning bidder.  The sleeve is also graded at EXCELLENT!!!  Believe me this item is NOT overgraded in ANY way!!!! I use STRICT RC grading standards - it's simply not in my interests to do otherwise!!!! Brilliant!!!!

This really is a great looking record and it is IMPOSSIBLE to find ANY copies of this CRUSHINGLY RARE LP!!!!
