JOHN CALE

PARIS 1919

REPRISE MS 2131

Stereo

1973

With 2 Inserts

I bought this LP new in May 1973.

Cover - Shrink on.  Red sticker on shrink.  No writing, no cover splits.  Very few shelving/handling indications.

Vinyl - Orange labels.  Some rubs/smudges.  No effect on play.

Sleeve - Original Warner/Reprise paper.  1972 on one bottom right corner.

Lyric Insert - One side blank.  It has a square of white, surrounded by yellowing white on the blank side.  That’s from the other insert.  The lyric side is glossy.  Minor handling evident, but no creases or tears.

Smaller Insert - Brief bio of John Cale.  It came with, and still has, one end folded over.  Has minor handling traces, no creases or tears.

Deadwax:

Side 1:  T  \   MS-2131        31550-1-1        A 2

Side 2:  T   l  MS-2131        31551-1-2        A l

Pressing Rings 69mm

T - Columbia Terre Haute pressing

Vinyl weight - 4 1/8 oz, 117-118g

On line sites agree with a February 25, 1973 release for this album.  I’m confident this is a first release/pressing.

Both inserts will be packaged outside the album cover to prevent removal bends.

The label has the last song as “ANTARCTICA (with RCT) STARTS HERE.”  The back cover lists it as “Antartica (with rt) Starts Here.”  Whichever, the lyric sheet does not have the lyrics.  They are there, very faint, and I don’t know what they are.  Maybe John’s solo “Murder Mystery.”

Pretty difficult to categorize John Cale’s post VU work.  “Macbeth” has some punch, and the others are John absorbing us in slower, reflective, ballad-like, orchestral ventures.

The provided lyrics help to focus.

I think this is about as nice a copy as you’ll find.
