VINTAGE 60's LP - RARE MISPRINT!

"MEET THE BEATLES"

So let me introduce to you, the band you've known for all these years....But you've never seen them packaged like this!

I'll try my best to explain, and afterwards if you have any questions, please be sure to ask them BEFORE PURCHASING because I want you to know exactly what you're getting.  Thanks.

Okay, what we have here is a very early U.S. pressing of The Beatles' MEET THE BEATLES album.  The record inside is Meet The Beatles, and the back cover / jacket is Meet The Beatles.  HOWEVER...the front cover oddly enough is another Capitol group, ex-Kingston Trio member Dave Guard & the Whiskey Hill Singers! 

HOW?  - The original owner saw a faint hint that there appeared to be a different cover underneath this otherwise-normal-looking Meet The Beatles album.  He must have had the same sensation as those of us who were lucky enough to experience holding a Beatles 'Yesterday & Today' album once upon a time, and carefully looking to see if we could see Ringo's black collar faintly through the field of white on the right side. IF you saw that, you knew that you were holding the Holy Grail of 60's album covers, the legendary BUTCHER COVER!  So the original owner must have thought..."Oh wow! What have we here??"  So he/she was able to do a very clean peel and what do you know??  Dave Guard & the Whiskey Hill Singers! 

The person who discovered this also had the forethought, if you want to call it that, to hang on to the Meet The Beatles slick that was peeled off. So that MTB slick is also included here.   The front cover=Dave Guard & the Whiskey Hill Singers is a clean peel, as Capitol Records obviously used a different adhesive on this in 1964 than they used on the 1965 Yesterday & Today albums.  Most people tried to steam off the Y&T album covers, often with horrible results.  That's not the case here. This was NOT steamed.  Whatever Capitol were using in '64 allowed it to just be peeled off, pretty as you please.  There is a thin clear residue of whatever Capitol used then.  There is no damage to the Dave Guard front cover.  The actual Meet The Beatles slick that was peeled off didn't fare quite as well, as it does have a couple of tears of about 1" to 2".  But most people would have probably thrown that away in the first place, so I look at it as a bonus that they even thought to keep it at all.

Remember, there were thousands of Butcher Covers, but have you ever seen even ONE of these??  Very rare indeedie!
