Description
The fullness of playing a fine old original record simply cannot be duplicated with "Ersatz" LPs
For sale is the original LONDON (DECCA UK ) CS.6191 MENDELSSOHN Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 56 "Scottish" "Hebrides Overture " Op. 26 Peter Maag conducting the LONDON SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA Recorded on April 21,22, 1960 at Kingsway Hall, London Kenneth E. Wilkinson & Alan Reeve, recording engineers.
"This is a legendary record. It is so, more perhaps because of its stunning recording quality, than because of its breathtaking performance. Here we have a grand illusion of Kingsway Hall, and we are given a striking portrait of the London Symphony with its sections blending into a powerful whole. Altogether, this is a larger than life production. It is not so much real, but more than real. It is heroic.Yet Peter Maag´s understanding of the score is total, and the musicians of the London Symphony are wonderfully responsive." Ronald Penndorf, Recollections.
The record is in excellent condition. The cover is in excellent condition too, just showing some signs of age and storage. Please feel free to ask for further information. This is a private sale. "Excellent" by my definition is a record without audible scratches, distortions (if not originally caused by the recording or cutting process) or other shortcomings. Records are mostly graded with old type cartridges like Ortofon SPU, Denon DL 103 e.g.. 'Modern' , more analytic cartridges sometimes may cause more groove or surface noise on vintage records.
