A Shift to a Heavier Sound: Following the highly melodic but somewhat polished sound of their first two albums, Side 3 marked a deliberate shift toward a more raw, aggressive, and guitar-driven sound. Lead vocalist and primary songwriter Eric Carmen noted that this album was the first time they truly captured their powerful live sound on record.
