AACM / Art Ensemble of Chicago / Sun Ra style jazz - hard-to-find and collectible. own this artifact! An ULTRA RARE copy of the “Creator Spaces” LP from The Phill Musra Group. This was released in 1974 on Intex Sound Records, Bayside, New York. "Crazy psychedelic free jazz" from a line up of Musra, Huseyinertunc & Michael Cosmic. Recorded in Cambridge, MA back in '74. The cover has a pasted on photo of Phill on his axe and the back has a paste on sheet with titles and info. Track listing: Side A: Egypt, Arabia Side B: The Creator is So Far Out, The Creator Spaces A FAN SAYS: "Def an out there one this. It sounds like the wooden flute is used a lot in this recording, which is nice as it adds a natural earthy feel to it. A trio setting, with different instruments being used. One track might me flute and two percussion, or you can have two reeds and an organ, percussion two reeds... The combination's are change often. Not the easiest listen, as it is totally free, but not painful free, still has some assemblage of listenability. Kind of feels like BYG/Actuel lite. Sorry for being so non-descript here. I just found out this guy was also a member of the World's Experience Orchestra " - MH1000 MH1000 discusses this type of music: "Deep, Freedom, Revolutionary, Independent...... Jazz - There is no real genre definition for this type of stuff, as it covers: free, free-improv, modal, fusion... the list could go on. I think the best description is what Mtume said in "Invocation" from his magical Alkebu-Lan album: " What you are about to hear is not jazz, or some other irrelevant term we allow others to use in defining our creation. But the sounds that are about to saturate your being and sensitise your soul, is the continuing process of nationalistic consciousness manifesting its message within the context of one of our strongest natural resources - Black music" Ok, not all the musicians here are Black, American or nationalists, but the concept is there I think. Musicians working towards their owns beliefs, faiths, morals and ethics, and not not following the constraints of a label or the drive for material gain. These are records that were in a way given to us by the artist to experience, and hopefully enrich us too. Ok, that sounds a bit wanky, but fugg-it, that's how it makes me feel, and it's my list. Also, a lot of these will cost you a small bloody fortune to buy. That's if you're ever lucky enough to even see an original. So a big thank you to labels like Celeste and P-Vine for making some of these lost gems available again. " "Los Angeles-based tenor saxophonist and his work/journey have graced the pages of Ni Kantu before, as we’ve dug up previously unreleased tracks provided by the man himself, as well as acquired windows into his life and recordings for the Intex and Cosmic labels with his brother, multi-instrumentalist Michael Cosmic (1950-2001). Though Musra has assembled CD-Rs of archival material to almost no distribution over the past few years, his visible output has generally remained known only to connoisseurs of rare records from a bygone era.
