(..WHEN THE RAVEN HAS COME TO THE EARTH....) by ( STRAWBERRY PATH )...... ....( a fan says: Strawberry Path's When the Raven Has Come to the Earth is another one of the many high noons in Japan's first wave tough guy psychedelic rock. Regardless of the plethoric unoriginalities found, because who's ever really cared about being original when you can cast the demons out with incendiary Hendrixian guitar noodling, this remains paradoxically a minor monument. It was a stacked time, as proven in the sometimes wrongheaded but always entertaining and informative Japrocksampler, and while looking back the late Seventies to early Eighties had a lull, a decline in heavy psychedelic Nihonrock, a cabal of noisemakers and acid mutants and biker punks seeking to shorten the brief Dark Age of trippy shit came back in the mid-Eighties, and they did, rapidly, dice up the fog to reveal new weird rock gods, though working via the underground (see High Rise). Calling this album a completionist's wank doesn't jive with me; Strawberry Path made a great record worthy of anyone's attention, from newfangled psych-freaker or old grey-maned burnout, from some music lover with five LPs on their shelf to the grandpa who likely needs to shed those one-hundred or so all-time greats comps.
