Up for auction here is a very rare Brazilian psychedelic/folk masterpiece, “Paebiru” by Lula Cortes and Ze Ramalho. 

The particular album for sale here is a still sealed copy of a reissue that was released a few years ago on the German Shadoks label. It was released in a very limited edition of 350 copies, all of which are long gone.

To see what a beautiful release this is I have included pictures of my own (opened and played) copy. But, again, the record you can bid on here is still sealed!

The white parts you can see at the center of the images are from the camera flash, they're not from the actual album.

The record was originally released in 1975, and has since become a collector’s item. It is a concept album where the four sides of the double album are dedicated to the four elements – earth, air, fire and water. Comes with a beautiful 8-page booklet.

And the music? Are you ready for this? Imagine a direct cross of Swedish cosmic psychedelic pioneers Algarnas Tradgard and the progressive folk of Los Jaivas from Chile. Take the traditional instruments of the Mayans, Incans, and early Spanish settlers, and combine with unearthly chanting and singing, then mesh with jazzy elements like flute and sax. Now add a dash of classical with piano and zither. Shake three times and add a huge scoop of completely freaked out, free-from-boundaries electric fuzz guitar, organ, and psychedelic jamming. The result is the musical realization of a mescaline dance party. One has absolutely no idea what the music will do next, but rest assured it will be well-played, intense, imaginative, and emotional. How exciting it must've been to do music like this; each composition could be improvised in a number of ways every night. The combinations are endless. Lula Cortez and Ze Ramalho's massive mid-seventies double-LP is all the above and more, and as such deserves an in-depth treatment. This huge exploratory LP combines Latin traditional music, free-jazz, free-folk, and psychedelia (in fact, just put free- in front of everything for this massive chunk of hallucinatory, mystical arcana.)
