Description

An original 1st press of Zep IV on the USA Atlantic label from 1971. Matrix C/D. Please note perimeter text mentions the original Atlantic address as '1841 Broadway' - this was discontinued roughly 1 year later. Etchings [Porky/Pecko & At/Gp]. This is a Presswell plant record. The vinyl comes housed in an original heavy card gatefold cover. Also included is the original thicker paper inner sleeve. Sweet!
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition and has thankfully only seen relatively light use. There are a few very light marks and a couple of very superficial trails - but nothing that would impact the audio. PLEASE NOTE - there is a minor warp at the edge of the LP observable on side 1. I've measured the edge wobble on side 1 at MAX amplitude of 1mm. This is, thankfully, just slight enough not to impact audio in those outer tracks. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of minor deviations. Having witnessed many a sweet red & plum UK copies it's a real pleasure to take in the '1st USA mix'. I have to say - I was impressed. Really good dynamics and plenty of detail too. Intros and inbetweens are very quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Those upbeat outer tracks just sound awesome - bags of energy, but good detail on the transients...nice! But what about the tricky low-key numbers? Well, 'Evermore' plays clean as a whistle...love it. 'California' [the trickiest] plays really good too with just a few crackles in the 2nd half of the track - overall very nice and nothing invasive. 'Stairway' plays really good too with just some background in that low-key intro [very common]. Once the vocal kicks in any background is minor and infrequent - and in no way distracting. It finishes off with Levee...what a banger! Absolute knock-out rendition. Overall a highly impressive player that has been looked after. It's Zep IV...go for a good copy...it deserves it!
Cover (Vg+) Has not been abused and has survived the years well. Worth noting the heavy-card construction - this really does feel much more substantial than many covers. Front and back look very good indeed with just a touch of wear noticeable top and bottom on the rear. The interior looks great - no issues at all. There's some edge wear - but nothing worrying. The spine looks very good with just some light wear. Overall a very nice looking original copy.
Inner (Vg+) In decent condition with just a few grubby marks and a signature at the top edge.
