Description:
An immaculate, 100% complete, and matching-parts 1982 UK retail first pressing of Led Zeppelin's final studio/compilation album, documenting the unified European manufacturing pipeline utilized by WEA Records in the early 1980s. The media is a verified product of the WEA Pressing Plant in Alsdorf, Germany, as definitively proven by the signature clock-face stamper alignment, the slightly raised circular ridge molded near the center spindle hole, and the unique, manually crossed-out deadwax matrices (crossed out XX X XX). These scratch-out marks indicate where the plant corrected the global layout numbers (LZ 10 A2 and 790051 B) in favor of the finalized identifier just prior to the album's November 1982 release. The vinyl itself was pressed using premium British metalwork master plates cut in London by renowned mastering engineer Ray Staff, proudly bearing his signature RA-LS etching at the 9 o'clock position on Side A. The classic green and orange Swan Song center labels were printed exclusively for domestic British retail, featuring the crucial legal indicator "Manufactured in the UK" positioned cleanly in the left-hand quadrant above the speed designation, alongside the late-era Warner Communications circled "W" logo stamped at the end of the legal rim text. Side 1 track publishing credits match the strict initial batch run, properly attributing "We're Gonna Groove" to Twangy Music Ltd. and "I Can't Quit You Baby" to Jewel Music Pub. Co. Ltd. The premium gatefold outer sleeve reflects the earliest German production run commissioned for the UK market, featuring a distinctively rough, matte-textured cardstock jacket with the title "CODA" physically embossed on the front cover. The spine cleanly reads 790051-1/UK a0051 LED ZEPPELIN-CODA SWAN SONG from top to bottom, while the lower back sleeve features the hybrid print "Manufactured in Germany" alongside the crucial domestic credit "Distributed by WEA Records Ltd" and label code LC3445. The package is historically complete with its original, thick-cardstock custom inner sleeve featuring square corners, full track credits mixed at Jimmy Page's Sol Studio, and a straight, un-notched top edge representing a documented early manufacturing variation. Free of swapped parts or later reissue substitutions, this complete-as-issued package stands as an archive-grade example of the album's definitive first British release.
