Description

An original 2nd press of Zep's debut on the UK Red&Plum Atlantic from summer 1969. Matrix A1/B1 - this is the first matrix cut, but it is possible to find earlier publishing credits from spring '69. "588171" with the "8" crossed out on both sides in the deadwax... The vinyl comes housed in an original 2nd issue cover [the version employed immediately after the turquoise lettering version was discontinued]. The cover mentions the 'Uptight and Outta Sight' appreciation society text on the rear. It has a pinched spine, orange lettering top-left corner, and the grey-stripe running along the foot. All of which is perfectly consistent with a 2nd issue cover. Also included is the original Atlantic plastic bag warning inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) Well, this is a seriously impressive looking piece of vinyl. It has clearly only seen light use and that's not something you can often say with Zep's debut. Under close inspection I couldn't make out more than a couple of very light marks either side - nothing remotely troublesome.  A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros an inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. I sold a copy a few days ago [the A1/B4] which was nigh on perfect and this copy [A1/B1] is just a shade behind it in one brief section with the remainder of the LP absolutely on a par with it. Expect a nigh on perfect rendition for the most part. We are talking clean clean audio, no signs of distortion, interference [for the most-part] - ABSENT. The only section I can detect a few crackles is that super-fussy organ section at the start of 'Your Time'. Nothing remotely invasive it just won't play perfectly clean like the rest of the LP does. Anyway, a small price to pay for what is an absolutely supremely well preserved A1/B1 copy of the ZEP DEBUT.
Cover (Ex/Ex+) Ok, well the original owner of this LP was one fastidious individual. A beautiful front cover way above what usually surfaces. Lovely clean and shiny front with barely any ageing, almost no laminate lift, and barely any creasing. There's just one tiny sticker removal mark just above the mid-section of the airship - it's not that noticeable. The rear is every bit the equal of the front - no issues at all. Edge wear is slight for this title and the openings are still sharp. The spine, often a problem area, looks great with just a couple of stress creases. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. An amazing example to be sure...
Inner (Vg+) A touch of ageing. No writing or marks. A two inch side split.
