Description
An original 1972 Q1 Led Zeppelin I Debut. These transitional copies come literally one month after the last Red & Plum copies. Matrix A1/B4. They still have the '69/'70 catalogue number in the deadwax '588171' [both sides] ...Note how all the perimeter text remains in the southern sector of the labels - and there's no sign of the Warners logo [strictly very early '72]. The audio cut on these early copies is superb and is, in fact, precisely the same as those last red & plum '71 copies. And I'd argue that buying a red&plum copy will rarely yield playback as well preseved as found on this copy. Also included is the original inner and the original cover with pinched spine. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In beautiful condition and has only seen very light use. A couple of light marks - nothing noticeable or feelable. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one very slight deviation. Intros and inbetweens are very very quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Hard to find fault here. Yes, the big upbeat tracks are not too difficult to find playing great..but what about those slow-build bluesy numbers? It's these tracks that separate the good copies from something absolutely top-level. Some very very sweet audio rolling off this early copy. Those big guitar lead tracks play with tremendous energy and poise - basically superb. The low-key tracks play with perfectly quiet background, and this is not an easy find. When you get a really quiet copy you can crank it up loud and nothing interferes. You're going to hear all that guitar wizardry in full-effect..you're going to get the vocal echos with perfect clarity, and every little rustle in the background perfectly rendered. You might detect a few isolated crackles in a couple of momentary spots per side [e.g. a few isolated in the organ intro to YTIGC...hardly anything...and way way better than you tend to find]. The only deviation is in "Black Mountain Side"..... midway through there's a very brief and slight tick. A very very small price to pay for what is without a doubt one of the cleanest and finest renditions of the debut I've witnessed....
Cover (Ex/Ex+) An absolute stunner from early 1972 which is a real find for sure. Lovely clean and flat surfaces - nothing noticeable in terms of wear or marks... just one minuscule thumbnail crease. No sign of ageing or deformation at all really. A touch of laminate lift along the spine on the rear - which is pretty much obligatory just stopping it getting the full Ex+. The spine is absolutely superb with hardly any wear at all - all text perfectly legible. The openings are still nice and sharp and overall the cover retains perfect rigidity. A bit of a corker and one that would be nigh on impossible to better.
