Description
An original 1971 RED & PLUM killer copy by Atlantic in the UK. Matrix A5/B4. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original darker brown gatefold cover [correct for '71...not a later swap]. We also have the original '71 inner dated correctly. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In really great condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of slightest deviations per side. So, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE AN AUDIO RATING like this on Zep II. Almost never will I find a Zep II original copy that gets close to this level. And when you get to witness one on a good system...you'll get to realise why folks make a big fuss about the early Red&PLum copies. The resolution they managed to pack onto these early copies is just awesome. Bone crunchingly heavy guitar. I don't care what fancy super duper reissue says it can manage. Nothing gets close to an original clean player. NOTHING. When you get the lowkey break in WLL WIAWSNB - there's just a quiet background. It means you can get to hear Plants vocal echoes properly. ABSOLUTELY superb. Expect just the odd couple of crackles in the odd spot per side. Just a a couple of crackles in one of the quiet breaks in WLL & KF - hardly worth mentioning. Two solitary and isolated ticks early in WIAWS which otherwise plays fab. FLOOR is absolutely killer. You can find decent original copies - but the really lightly used well preserved copies only pop up now and again. Mores the pity! Slow run/build into THANKY YOU - really clean...a couple of crackles at worst.. MOST copies just will not deliver that. HIGHLY accomplished in every way. You will not find better. Percussive tapping on the way into 'RAMBLE'...baring one minor tick is astonishingly [OMG] good. Apart form one solitary minor tick ...Quietest Moby Dick background I've ever heard. Cymbal strikes are about as realistic as you will ever hear on vinyl - period. Lowkey intro Bring It On Home...rarely plays clean - just a couple of minor static crackles and one minor tick. Superb! WITHIN the best five copies I've ever had the pleasure to spin.
Cover (Vg+) Not quite up to the standard of the vinyl - but take a look on-line. Original covers are hellishly difficult to find in anything approaching Ex condition. Pretty clean and flat front - some grubbiness and ageing at spine edge. Interior looks superb. Nice firm openings panel. The rear looks really good with some evidence of handling. A good bit of edge wear in places - nothing epic or invasive though. Spine is in pretty decent order with text legible - slight wear and discolouration. Sharp openings. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg) Aged. No splits.
