Original Atlantic Records promotional copy 1st US pressing of Led Zeppelin’s 2nd studio album “Led Zeppelin II” featuring Robert Ludwig’s “Hot” mastering on both sides. Very early 1st print raw textured matte light brown cardboard gatefold cover has an incredibly rare “Led Zeppelin” purple banner. When printing the covers, the amount of ink on the offset print roller decreased gradually that led to the change in color intensity, from purple to the pink banner that can be found on the majority of “Led Zeppelin II” covers. The 1st print cover remains in the original fully intact factory shrink wrap. The front cover contains the original “Promotional Copy Not For Sale” sticker underneath the shrink wrap and “Includes the Hit Single WHOLE LOTTA LOVE SD8236” hype sticker affixed to the shrink wrap. The back cover contains an original track listing “This Album Contains” hype sticker with the SD 8236 catalog number located underneath the shrink wrap at the center top. The album comes with the original “Aretha Franklin Soul’69” inner sleeve which came with the Atlantic Records releases from 1968 to 1969.   This amazing example is a pre-release promotional copy which Atlantic Records sent to the media and radio stations several months before the official release of the album at the end of October, 1969. This copy contains the white Atlantic Records promotional labels with the “SAMPLE COPY NOT FOR SALE” banner, the SD-8236 catalog number and the “1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y.” address. The “PR” suffix at the bottom center of the label identifies that this promotional copy was pressed at the Presswell Manufacturing Company plant in New Jersey. The full matrix numbers of this promotional pressing are as follows: Side 1 - ST-A-691671-B LW AT RL SS W; Side 2 - ST-A-691672-C LW RL SS W AT.

The stunning cover is graded as Near Mint. It remains in its original fully intact factory shrink wrap. I'm sure that many sellers would grade this cover as Mint Minus. I grade the vinyl as Excellent Minus for Side 1 and Very Good Plus for Side 2. The glossy vinyl retains its beautiful factory lacquer only having some very light non-feelable surface hairlines as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve, which is in Near Mint Minus condition and doesn't have any splits or tears. The very clean labels in Near Mint Minus condition don't have any scuffs, wear or spindle marks with the Side 2 label only having some very light and barely noticeable age discoloration. The vinyl sounds great only having some light occasional static with the last track of Side 1 having a series of very light pops, but our phonograph's tonearm is set to a light weight and if the weight of your tonearm is heavier than perhaps you aren't going to hear it. This and the static will most likely go away if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
